multimedia links for interests: how important are they?

i do around 10 extra curriculars but i didnt manage to link any multimedia into my application.

i do team sports, art, music, public speaking, model united nations, community service etc but none of these are outstanding or anything. will this affect my application result really badly? i have straight As and got 97% for my ssats. my academics are definitely a lot stronger than my extra curriculars so hopefully that will help?

im international (asian) going to 9th grade, not applying for financial aid

what do you guys think? did you link any multimedia?

Have you done your interview, sometimes they will ask you for multimedia. Like a picture or video, if you forgot to give multimedia, send a email with all your multimedia files. They will accept it. I didn’t link any and they accepted my email.

^we had made flash drives of some tournament games that YouTube couldn’t publish…these were WAY better than any video I had taken that was actually on YouTube…so we gave them to each coach on interview day. We also sent an email with the YouTube folder link later. They accepted both.

@buuzn03 regarding the flash drive with tournament games - was your son highlighted throughout or were they just full games and the coaches knew his number, etc.? Thanks!

Is this common right now? My kids had none and did just fine in admissions. They did have contact info for kids’ coaches/teachers. I seriously doubt admissions has time to look at many links and videos when reviewing so many applications.

@doschicos we were actually told by almost every coach we talked to to include some footage. @cj9623 I know some sent highlight reels but we were advised to send in full games (I took out dead times like stoppage b/w plays, time outs, etc) because coaches wanted to not just see the good but wanted to see how the players recovered from the bad. So, that’s what I did. On the flash drive I write his name, team name, number & position. I think media is more important for kids coming out of areas unfamiliar to the schools & coaches, as local or area kids can be seen or info shared among coaches because they know each other. You can PM me if you have any other questions!!

Thanks, @buuzn03, I could see it being more important for applicants at a distance as well as for older applicants. I also took the OP’s post to mean links for more than sports. I do know people send stuff for sports, music, etc. but I would think the viewers of that will be coaches and music heads, etc. more than the admissions staff. Then coaches and department heads would contact the admissions office to let them know that kid x would be on his/her A list. For my sporty kid, just knowing kiddo was playing on certain club teams during middle school probably carried a lot of weight. We didn’t tape and figured if the coach wanted to know more, he’d come watch a game and/or call the kid’s coach. All coaches were greatly interested and didn’t seem to have a problem without footage.

Thank you, @buuzn03 !

I reeeaally regret not submitting some pictures of my paintings. I think they would’ve helped my chances of admission A LOT. One of my interviewers asked me to show her one of my drawings, though, so that’s a plus.

I don’t think it’s too late to reach out to Admissions, coaches, art faculty, etc. I suggest doing a quick slide show and sending a link.
