Multiple Common App Essays

Does anyone know if you are allowed to change your Common App Essay for a different college once it is submitted. I have a college application due in two days but am not crazy about my current Common App essay. I don't mind submitting it to one school but do not want to submit my current essay to my reach schools. I read on the Common App page that you are allowed to have 3 versions of an essay, but does this mean that you must answer the same prompt across all three versions and are only allowed to make small changes, or can I submit an entirely new essay when I update to a new version of my essay.

The Official Statement on the Common App page is:
"You may edit the Common App after submission to one college and before submission to additional colleges in order to correct errors or update information. There is no limit to application versions; instead you can make unlimited edits to the application with the sole exception of the essay. The essay can have a maximum of three submitted versions. You should not customize the essay for a particular college. College-specific essays will appear on the Writing Supplement."

Thanks!

You could, but you shouldn’t. One well-written CA essay would suffice for most colleges.
