Music Appreciation?

Hi guys,

I am thinking of taking Music Appreciation in the Spring as an elective class. I am wondering if this is the right choice and whether or not it will be hard for me. I listened to music casually, and I totally suck at music when I took it in elementary school. I read reviews saying that the professor is good, but you have to go to concerts to actually write reports. I really don't have the time to go to concerts, I have 3 other classes and I have to work in the weekend.

Should I just drop this class and find another one? School is 2 weeks away and I don't know if I have many choices left. Any of you guys had experience with this class?

Assuming that the papers are major part of your grade, I would since it seems like you don’t have the time to attend them. See if you can ind an easier class more for your schedule, if not, try see if you can find some time? Good luck!

Have you looked at the schedule of concerts in your music department? You could email the professor and ask if there are particular concerts you need to attend or if you can choose any concert. Just let him know that you have a busy schedule and you want to make sure you can participate fully in the class. I had a really busy schedule when I took a music class, but we were allowed to choose what concerts we went to, so I could always find a few that I could attend (usually Friday or Saturday nights, when I didn’t work). Do you work weekend nights or during the day? At my school, the concerts were usually weekend nights, but you may have some concerts during the week, as well.

I would look for other classes that you can take, in case this doesn’t work out. But if you want to take the class, you shouldn’t necessarily assume that you’re too busy to go to the concerts. Check to make sure that’s the case beforehand, and if you still want to take the class, you can see if your professor will be willing to give you an alternate assignment if you have work that conflicts with all of the concert times. Alternatively, you could try to rearrange your schedule (perhaps you could swap shifts with a coworker on certain weeks) so that you could make room for a couple of concerts during the semester.

But if you don’t really care about the class, then just look for another class that will make your schedule easier.
