im a junior and looking at schools for music- i’m not necessarily very interested in there being a very strong performance program… more focused on ethnomusicology and opportunities with that kind of thing.

i was wondering if anyone who’s involved with music at brown could tell me the quality of the program and how music is viewed in the brown community (i.e. amount of involvement, well known, important to brown students)?

i’m also looking at wesleyan… can anyone compare the two?

thanks!

What I can tell you is that our Dean of the College worked in ethnomusicology and that our anthropology department and MCM departments are also quite strong, all of which are "supporting actors" in something like ethnomusicology. So I'd think you'd be able to receive a very interesting and useful education on the subject matter here and opportunities definitely exist. That being said, it's certainly not the path most traveled so I don't know any details about how such a program would work.

I know nothing about Wesleyan, sorry.

thanks!

anyone else please??

I would ask the same question at the Wesleyan board; ethnomusicology has been a point of pride there for as long as anyone can remember.
