Music at Emory

I was wondering if as an undergrad at Emory, are you able to be in Choir even if you are not a music major. How selective are the choirs and any other info you know on music would be great!!

My experience with Emory’s music program has been absolutely phenomenal. Both the University Chorus and the Concert Choir (as well as all a capella groups, the Emory Symphony, the Emory Wind Ensemble, and numerous other music groups) are open to music majors and non-majors alike. Emory prides itself in being a true liberal arts institution, and students are very much encouraged to have multidisciplinary interests. It is very common to find a student who might be a business or science major but who is also involved in the Music program and/or athletics, etc.

I know that the a capella groups are more selective than the concert choir. The a capella groups typically accept 1-3 freshmen whereas you can easily get into the choir. One of my friends has never done choir before and he got in.

Hell, there are even Chemistry teachers in the choir.

^^^ Actually, I think you’re talking about the University Chorus. Almost anybody can sing in that group, but the Concert Choir is smaller and much more selective.

Are you talking about prof Mulford? Dang, I didn’t know that!

does anybody know if the instrumental groups require that you are a music major (wind ensembles, orchestras, etc?)

The symphony, wind ensemble, and all other instrumental groups are open to both music majors and non-majors. And they’re pretty awesome. :)

Do you have to go through an audition to join the symphony?

^^^^ Yes.

Yes, I meant Chorus.

I am ignorant and group both into the same category.

Yes, I was talking about professor Mulford!
