Music (Composition): UChicago versus Northwestern et al

So I just got my offers of admission for U of C (EA) and Northwestern (RD), and I'm still waiting to hear back from Harvard and Yale. If I end up at H or Y, I'd probably do the respective 5-year M.M. tracks with a double major AB in philosophy. (I've also gotten into Fordham U, Loyola New Orleans, Emory, Catholic U of America, and denied from JHU/Peabody).

Anyway, any words of wisdom comparing the Music at these two (or 4) fine schools? I'd say U of C wins in terms of academic rapport etc. but Northwestern (BM/BA) also seems like a good idea.

U of C is a much smaller program as well. Is it possible to get your works performed by competent musicians? That seems like the only plus NWern would have : being surrounded by instrument majors. I'm not a fan of my overall campus experience there.

What about location? How does Hyde Park compare to Evanston, Cambride, or New Haven? Does it really matter?

I also heard that a lot of U of C faculty came from Yale School of Music. Why not just go to Yale? Or, on the other hand, would that help in the YSM admissions process to get letters of reccomendation etc from their alumni at UChicago?

What about the new Logan Center? Will this be a big deal for musicians?

Thanks!

UChicago’s music program stresses THEORY, not composition. There are very few actual composition classes. I’m possibly not the best judge of this, but that is what most people have told me.
