Music hum

Could somebody tell me about the concert assignment? Is it an essay?

You will probably have to write one, if not more, concert reports. Yes, this is an essay, but it is usually more one's subjective impressions of the concert blended with any class-related observations one makes about it. Occasionally it will take the form of a more critical piece like a concert review.

I'm not a Columbia student...but I'd strongly recommend going to a Miller Theatre concert. George Steel, the director has incredible taste in music. Often, the composer of the music on the concert is present and will give a pre-concert talk or interview. There's something quite immediate about listening to “classical” or “art” music written by someone still alive.

Plus, you don't even need to hop on a subway to get there.

This varies by instructor. Some don't even assign a concert report.

In my music hum class we went to the opera (La Traviata) and my assignment was to "enjoy the opera" ....didnt have to write a single "concert report" the whole class....again core classes depend SO MUCH on your instructor....thankfully, mine was awesome!

Shraf, who was your music hum teacher?

Paul Sheehan ....a great guy and an awesome teacher....he was a grad student so he might not be around anymore.

If you look on culpa my review is the 18 Jan 2005.

Thanks. I told my son and he said the class is full and he's not teaching in the spring.
