Music Industry School Comparisons

Hello, I was hoping someone could help me out! I am looking to going into either music business or audio engineering. I am looking into Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, and Syracuse University. All 3 programs look spectacular and I have heard many great things them.

Belmont's audio engineering program is supposedly top of the line and they have tons of connections with the industry, being top of the line, and it seems like a dream. I have also heard there is a higher transfer rate out of that school but I do not know if that is true or not. The school is also Christian and they require students to get convocation hours and there are some restrictions on the campus. There is also no football team or marching band which is a major bummer. These few aspects make me think twice about attending.

As for MTSU, it seems like a great school and program but are they going to have connections? This school also does not seem as concerned about internships either.

Lastly, Syracuse, it looks like an absolutely spectacular school and their program looks awesome. I was just wondering, because of the location, are there going to be as many opportunities compared to a school in Nashville?

Which would be the better choice in the long run? If anyone could give any insight into the schools and their programs it would be extremely helpful!

My son us a RIM (Recording Industry major) at MTSU and he loves it. There is a lot of cross-pollination between MTSU and Belmont as in some faculty members at one school went to the other school, etc. There are plenty of internships at MTSU and the recording facilities are outstanding. I recommend you visit both and compare costs.

Thank you jeannmar! For me being an out of state student, price is pretty similar between the two schools. That’s pretty awesome to hear though. I am down to comparing programs and what college I like better overall. I hear both programs are spectacular though. Does your son like MTSU??

When we visited MTSU the program head told us they often had more internships than students. I understand it is their job to sell, but I got the feeling they were connected to the industry. My son really liked the people he met and the program.

I have a friend who went there for her undergrad and was working in Nashville engineering in the studio her second year.

Have you looked at Drexel?

@romemama‌ , I am really leaning towards MTSU! They seem to have a very cool program with nice facilities. I really like how they’re a litthe distance from Nashville but still connected!

I have heard of Drexel! I checked out the school and program but sadly, my dad does not want me to go to school in Philly!
