Being in Austin, where there is a large music scene, I believe that a music management associate and an Accounting one would help to find work with the venues, CPAs/bookkeepers, and radio stations there. I’ve also heard it could be seen as lack of commitment to some employers. Yea or Nay?
I suggest that you find out the backgrounds of people the venues and radio stations have hired. Ask (email) the managers there what their backgrounds are, what background one should have for what they do, of course explaining that you’re a college student interested in their field. And I suggest finding out what the backgrounds of the professors in the music management associate program are (i.e. do they actually know that industry and, if so, how - is what they have to offer truly useful).
(Obviously, CPA firms are interested in accountants.)
That’s a terrific idea, thanks. The music management education is interesting because of the classes specific to the industry. Dept. of Labor says that Artist managers make the same as accountants with same job growth, percentage wise. I’d love to be able to get into management which would entail skills in accounting and the industry in general.
