Music is a wonderful thing. Do not encourage quitting the music. Be clear on this.
Consider carefully, however, being a music major - it’s usually complicated - SO many variables.
I highly recommend spending a lot of time on CC’s music major forum - read back on many threads - earlier posted info there is also extremely insightful so do not just skim the surface or look at current posts.
Another point is there ARE a fair number of highly skilled/really musical (college student) musicians playing music in certain cities, certain schools without being music majors. Music flourishes in certain places. Some places have opportunities (paid, even!) that are by no means closed off to non-music-majors.
The realities of being a music major mean a major gamble IMO. Tends to be an expensive gamble (even w/scholarships). Consider options - what would one do if one decided to make a change? I have known/ known of a surprising number of top students who made a change, sometimes this was relatively easy to do and sometimes it was very disruptive and challenging. Sometimes there is more flexiblity or less in the situation at a particular university SOM or conservatory, so be open to exploring all these options.
