Here is a nice article that not only talks about the newest visiting musician on the faculty at Tulane (and this guy is really good!), but also some interesting comments about the growth in the demand for music majors and minors. I personally love to see this at Tulane. Interestingly, it also tracks with the nature of the inquiries I get on here, usually via PM but often on the open boards as well.

Donald Harrison Jr. to join Tulane music department as jazz artist in residence | NOLA.com

WOW! I wonder if these kids know how lucky they are? DONALD HARRISON??? What an incredible city to study music in, so many wonderful musicians…

In a wild coincidence Jesse McBride, who is mentioned in the article, taught my kids at a summer “brain camp” that was held originally in Virginia on the campus of Emory & Henry College and then moved to North Carolina, using the campus of Warren Wilson. When I saw his name in a Tulane announcement I was obviously pleasantly surprised. He has been a great help to some of the incoming students, as I am sure Mr. Harrison will be as well. It is indeed great that Tulane takes advantage of these wonderful local talents, mixing them in with academic musicians.
