I'm investigating colleges for my little sister and she's really interested in Ithaca College. Anyone know anything about the music program? She plays the viola and I don't know that she's necessarily interested in going into a performance career but she loves music and would like to study that at Ithaca. Any insight would be awesome.
Thanks so much!!

I don’t know much about their program in detail, but i do know there are a lot of music students there, so that must mean a good program! In fact, the school takes music very seriously. Also, when I toured there, I remember them saying that there (new) school of music has individual practice rooms that all music students are guaranteed access to, and they have a new performing auditorium that is just AMAZING. I also remember the student tour guide saying that the music students at IC are VERY serious about their work. So I believe that it is an excellent program for there to be so much work put into it and if there are students that are that dedicated. =)

The Ithaca music program is very intensive, prestigious, and all in all excellent, from what I could see. I have a friend who is a music education major there, and who played the trombone. She practices a lot and works very hard at what she does. I knew so many extremely talented people during my year there. Definitely a great music program, for performance and for education.

This can be a downside to someone who wants to do music casually at Ithaca. You have to be quite talented to get into most performance groups, with the exception of gospel choir and the bell group. I think there might be an all-campus band that anyone can perform in but I’m honestly not positive about that, because I don’t play an instrument, I just sing.
