How do music programs stand at HYP, Stanford, Columbia, Brown, etc? As Yale is very arts-based, I know that it also has a very strong music department, but I was just wondering how those at other schools compare (especially orchestrally). Does anyone have personal experience?

I don’t know about the music programs at Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford, but the music program at Columbia is excellent. Columbia University is connected with the Juilliard School of Music in New York and exceptionally talented students at Columbia are able to have access to instrumental and voice instruction at Juilliard.

As for Yale, maybe this thread will help you. Read the thread:

Yale has a very good music program. Harvard’s is good for composition/theory stuff, and then for performance, it’s going to depend on your instrument (or voice) instructor.
I’m not too sure about Princeton or Stanford. I think Princeton pumped in $1 million into their arts departments a few months ago, so maybe they’re music program is on the rise.
