music scene?

Are there a good student rock bands at Vassar? Are there any rooms with drum sets around to practice?

I don’t think that kind of criteria should concern you when picking a college, but I think a trip to the campus could answer your question.

I don’t know about drums but there was a piano on the lobby/lounge of the dorm we visited. It’s a very musical school with a gorgeous music building. I certainly would not be surprised if there were drum sets everywhere. :)

Laura’sDad, This is the perfect forum for such questions. There are current Vassar students who will respond if they spot your question. VERY nice, accessible student body. My son will be attending Vassar next year and he sent an e-mail to a Vassar department with lots of little questions that were important to him but might not seem important to others. He got a very detailed response back from a current student who went out of his way to be welcoming. So that might be another avenue to find out more about the music scene. E-mail addresses are on the web site. There are also Vassar facebook forums where current students are very open to answering questions. Not sure why Timeway feels like what is important in a school for him should be the standard for everyone else. Strange response.

Yes, Poughkeepsie has quite a few good alternative rock bands.

“Just Surrender,” “I am the Pilot” and “Matchbook Romance” are three highly successful bands to come out of the area.

I am a guitarist living in Poughkeepsie and have played with a bunch of great musicians here, your daughter will love the rock scene. The Chance also attracts some great acts.
