Music supplement for non-classical instrument?

I've been out of high school for a few years and have been working in the independent music industry, both touring with a live band (not playing in the band, but doing the other stuff that goes with touring) and have since been working on my own music as a pop/rock singer and songwriter, recording digitally and learning to produce my own stuff without going through a recording studio.

I know I have to talk about what I've been doing since I left high school and all that, so my initial thought was that I would do the music supplement, but it seems what they expect from the supplement is regular classical instruments that have a specific technique..

What do you think?

I think a vocal supplement would be fine. Not everyone can sing well, you know. it takes hard work and dedication just like any other instrument.

Hmm, though it's not just vocals, I play guitar and have drums/bass and synthesised sounds and everything on it as well. I know that takes a skill as well as a 'normal' instrument, but I guess it's a different TYPE of skill.. possibly not necessarily the type they're looking for?

You may or may not have seen the current thread here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/560388-should-i-submit-music-supplment.html.

The supplement will be reviewed (or should be)
by a music professional, who has a knowledge of theory, composition, analysis and score reading, and extensive ear training.

They are looking for technical proficiency, innoation, and musicality, and are used to assessing music regardless of instrument or genre, although they may have more experience in specific areas.

Your case is a very good reason while a supplement should be submitted. Again, check, as not all schools will accept them.

If you are applying as a music major, the criteria change greatly. Most all programs have specific discipline criteria for admissions.

Thanks for that.. I'm not looking to do a music major so that won't apply to me. All of the schools I'm applying to accept the supplement so I guess I'll probably contact them and see if it'll be beneficial at all. It's not like badly produced thrash metal with just screaming in place of vocals so I figure it can't be bad to include it.

But if anyone else has any experience with this then please do share.

Thanks for your help.
