music supplement help

i'm thinking of sending in a clarinet recording along with my application. Does anyone have any suggestion of the songs i should play? And can i just record using a microphone attached to the computer?

I have a question too: How good do I need to be to send a music supplement? I’m pretty good at my orchestra (regionals, all states) but idk if that warrants a recording

There’s a series of links to prior threads regarding music supplements in my post here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/742910-music-supplement-help.html

Recording from the mike directly to computer will yield marginal results. For the technical aspects of producing a quality recorded submission, try cc’s music major forum and search for threads under “recording” or “submission”. The posters BassDad and Imperial Zeppelin are very knowledgeable. You can also search for recording topics with those user names.

Regarding repertoire, the best advice is to play the highest level piece you can nail, rather than a really tough work in which you struggle. Your private instructor or music director can recommend appropriate rep for your current level.
