Music Supplement support

DS got an email from the orchestra director saying he has sent a letter of support to admissions. Obviously this was good news, but does anyone know how much impact this likely has? Looking for any glimmers of hope since end of March seems so far away! Thanks!

First of all, congratulations to your DS on the letter! I’m an undergraduate leader with one of the music ensembles on campus and can hopefully shed some light on the situation. When the department receives a music supplement it is given a numerical score, and applicants who earn scores above a certain threshold are written letters of support by the pertinent ensemble (Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, etc.). The good news is your DS submitted an excellent recording and made this cut-off, which means that the department is confident that he/she is skilled enough to make a contribution to the Cornell Orchestras. There are multiple levels of letters that are written to candidates who make the cut, with truly virtuosic musicians who are Eastman/Juilliard material being written stronger letters of support than candidates who barely make it. Just know that Chris Kim thought your DS could make a contribution to one of his ensembles and wants to make sure that the admissions committee takes that into account. Feel free to message me if you have further questions!

@Billium Hi. I am applying for a transfer for fall 2017 and I am interested in submitting a musical recording ( I play the sitar.) Should I submit it online at https://forms.admissions.cornell.edu/webform/admissions/submit.php. Or is there any other way.
Thanks
