Hello, I just asked this recently in another thread but it probably wasn't the right place for it. Is it required that you take Math 141 in order to be in the university orchestra? Originally I didn't think you had to be but now it seems like you do. I just don't understand - if you're in the orchestra more than one semester, do you have to take that class each time? thanks for any help

doesn't it show in your record if you have already taken it ?

so you mean, you take the course once and then can be in the orchestra as many semesters as you want?

I'm not sure what you're asking about, but here's my experience with the Symphony...

You audition during the first week of classes, and if you get in, you're in Music 141, a 2 unit, letter-graded course. That's the only way to be in the symphony: auditioning and taking the class as a letter grade. If and when you do get in, you have the option of automatically getting into Symphony the next semester without auditioning. You have to re-audition the following semester after that, but once you're in, they're very good about letting you back in the next year.

So after you audition, you get to be in the orchestra for one full school year. You can take it a maximum of three times to fulfill upper-div requirements for the music minor.

is the time that they set aside for the class an actual orchestra rehearsal? or is it just like a regular class and rehearsal is at a different time?

The course consists solely of two rehearsal slots, both mandatory: 7:15-9:45 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is no other classroom-based meeting time.

how are auditions? anyone know about the choir or wind ensemble auditions specifically?
