Musical Theatre College Auditions

I agree, but we all know how hard it is!

In any case, choice is good. Maybe she’ll decide Wagner is THE PLACE – I hear it’s nice. Certainly you couldn’t find two schools more different than Wagner and Marymount Manhattan! Then there’s the issue of financial aid packages.

Good luck. We’re all in this agony together.

They have sent some letters out and are sending more out tomorrow and Monday and next week so the decision is made at least for my D group that has been accepted to the school and auditioned fairly early. I do not involve my self with anything… She does it all on her own, if she will be in show business her mommy won’t be there to hold her hand! Lol! It was just a thought because they do have the decision made yet it won’t reach us before we head out to NYC for another audition to a school she would not pick over MMC. I really didn’t feel good about it but was kind o hoping someone would tell me it would be ok… Ahh if people only knew what MT families go through! Thanks guys!

Ah, but here’s the thing. Your daughter thinks she wouldn’t pick the school she’s going to over MMC, but you never know. My D just got into a program she loves, but we were at her last audition school for another reason this week, and she toured their theater facilities and loved what she saw. If she auditions in there it might be a more difficult choice than she anticipated.

So true Jeffandann. MMC was not a school she expected to favor and she ended up loving it! But she really loves boco as well. Honestly though Wagner isn’t as strong in the areas she chooses to concentrate on but like you said sometimes you discover so much more at the auditions! I think like most she would just like to know!

Waiting mum: Take comfort in the fact there are many on this board that have been through this that can provide you with much support and comfort. I can’t count the number of times I’ve come on here with questions and had folks put my mind at ease, especially the last couple months with auditions. You won;t believe how relieved you and your D will be when you get that first acceptance, as my D did this week.

I agree with JeffandAnn that the bright side of this is that your D will see all her auditions through and once she has all the decisions in hand, she can make an informed decision. If she has yet to visit Wagner, this is a good chance to see it and if she gets in, weigh it. She may like it more than she thinks now, or else it will solidify her desire to attend the others IF she gets into those, which at this point is not yet known. So, I think it is worthwhile to do the audition at Wagner for those reasons alone.

On a personal note, my D wanted to attend NYU/Tisch since age 12. But she did not apply Early Decision because she had not yet visited all the schools on her list as she ended up applying to college in her junior year, the year I had planned on her doing campus trips. I’m glad she visited all 8 of her schools for campus auditions so that when she finally did get accepted in the spring at NYU, she had come full circle to make an informed choice that indeed it was the best fit for her.

PS, while there is often no rhyme or reason why a kid is accepted to X and not Y school, generally speaking BOCO is harder to get into than Wagner and so I don’t know your D’s entire college list but keeping options open is a good thing to do now so that hopefully she may land OPTIONS in the spring.

Yes definitely! She would only not go if she got an acceptance to MMC beforehand and had a guarantee and then would wait out the rest. It is one if the first we should hear from the rest will be mid March and then Boco won’t be until beginning of April. She has wide range because as you all know its very unpredictable!! She has auditioned at Pace, MMC, Ithaca, BoCo, SU, Penn State, Wagner,(on Sunday) SUNY Fredonia in March. I feel like I forgot one! Thanks for the support! Next will be trying to pay for it!!

I was just reading this post from amtc. So true but so hard to believe in the moment when you are looking at their faces (sheer happiness from an offer or awful self doubt from the decline). That being said my daugter has grown in both talent and emotional intelligence from this entire ordeal. She is so grateful at the advice she receives at each audition. Frankly, when I heard her out in the hall during Unifieds (yes, she’s kinda loud) I thought she sounded so much better than weeks before. She came hopping out saying she tried something a judge suggested and now would do it each time. She rather bounded from room to room with new energy. She is truly learning in this process. That is a blessing all in itself:)

Hello! i recieved a letter on monday from MMC telling me that i have been placed on the waitlist for the BA theatre arts with a concentration in performance and a Musical Theater minor. honestyly, what are my chances of actually getting in and is there ANYTHING i can do to better my chances…? i want this so bad

The waiting is agony…my D thinks she won’t get in anywhere. She really wanted Wagner but the audition was a nightmare marathon…do they really have to torture the kids that way?

BwayHereiCome, it is always appropriate to send the school a note confirming that you DO want to remain on their wait list, and if that school truly is your first choice, say so. Make sure to keep it short and pleasant, and proofread it because it will probably become part of your file. Best wishes!

As I posted last year, know that kids come off waitlists all the way into June. Once people start making decisions, the dominoes start falling and many, many students are affected. However, it is a very good idea to commit yourself and a deposit to a program by May 1, even if you are still on a waitlist for one you like better. You might lose the deposit, but only you can decide if it is worth it. You do want somewhere to be if your waitlist doesn’t work out!
