Musical Theatre Minor/Double Major

Can anyone recommend schools with BFA musical theatre programs that (realistically!!) give you time to pursue minors in other fields? I’m definitely interested in an intense musical theatre program, but of course having that “back-up plan” would be a huge plus. Possibly being able to have a BFA in MT but also a minor in communications? Any advice would be super helpful.

Will you realistically come in with any AP/IB credits? My S who is a Rider had 32 AP credits coming in and also tested out of some required courses, making him a “sophomore by credits” when he arrived (although technically a freshman when it came to the BFA MT curriculum. Nonetheless, by having many GEs waived due to APs or placement exams, he was able to add double major in Arts Administration (a field of study that works well w/ MT as many of the theatre courses counted toward both majors.) There are a few other Rider students doing minors as well. Unfortunately, this is a question you will need to pose to each admissions department, since each student is different. Best advice I can give you is that the easiest path to double majoring with BFA-MT is with a heap of AP/IB credits to get you ahead of the curve. Otherwise it may take you more than 4 years to achieve your goals.
