Are there opportunities to do musical theatre at Oberlin, either through the theatre department or student organizations?

Yes. Last winter term, students put together a production of Cabaret, which was performed in the Spring semester; there is also often a Gilbert and Sullivan production (if that counts). But there is no musical theater program as such; the Conservatory has an outstanding opera department that puts on two operas a year.

Thanks! Those sound like good options.

There is also OMTA (Oberlin Musical Theatre Association) and OSTA (Oberlin Student Theatre Association) and both are student run and directed groups that sponsor student theater (and musical) productions, along with the previously mentioned Gilbert and Sullivan Players (OGASP - although they fluctuate in and out of existence). And there is almost always a winter term musical put on by students and/or by the Theater and Dance department (two years ago I was involved with the student run Little Shop of Horrors and saw the T&D winter term production of Assassins).

There's a student-run Oberlin Musical Theater Association that put on 2 shows a semester; the T+D department (Theater and Dance) puts on a large music each year, as well as a "Songbook." There's also a 24-hour theater competition and a first-year showcase (1st year actors, 2nd year directors) which generally feature a musical.
At the end of the year, students blow off steam before finals by putting on a cult musical like Buffy! Once More with Feeling or South Park the Movie. Dr. Horrible (by Joss Whedon, of Firefly/Buffy fame) is set for this year.

There's a lot. Hope that helped!
