I know this thread has been made numerous times, but with most of the RD Decisions having been mailed out within the last week and most kids knowing where they are going and thinking about shopping for college, I thought it would be good just to start listing some college necessities and dorm amenities that either you will be getting or helped you in college.

BUMP, i'm so excited to get the stuff.

or....you could use the search function and find any of the multipage threads...or search on google...or wait and see what your schools tell you

Yeah I know but I just think it would be cool for all of the new college kids to discuss it. I know I'm kinda excited about it and reading old threads just isn't the same.

the threads arent more than a week or 2 old...a single reply and it is back to the top of the list

God, just list some stuff instead of spamming up the thread.. It is so much more fun and interactive to get replies rather than looking through old threads by yourself.

I agree
So I will start

Carpet Remnants
George Forman (If allowed)
Bookcase
Fan

Bulletin Board

*I can keep a running list if yall want

Computer/laptop

Bring lots of T-shirts. Doesn't matter if you go to school in LA or Boston, chances are your dorm will be hot; either it will not have air conditioning or even if it does have AC it won't be as effective as regular residential AC. Thus, you'll end up dressing in regular clothes for class and changing in t-shirts the moment you get home.

Don't we need a basket or something to put all our toiletries in if we stay in a dorm?

a piece of hose (like from a shop-vac...1.5-2inches thick or so) that you slit down the edge.

makes a perfect cable organizer (just cut it to length and give the rest to a roomate or something), easy to add and remove cables, and costs WAY less than the .75inch stuff that they sell as "cable organizers"

cool. I hadn't thought of that otto :p
