Is it bad taste for two friends to write peer recs for each other? I can think of both positives and negatives. What do you all think?

I don't think it matters. If two people are best friends, and both are intelligent kids and good writers, it is hardly surprising that they would write each other's recommendations.

I think what matters is that the peer rec show something individual about the applicant, not just make general statements about his or her GPA, standardized test scores, and that kind of stuff. Something real and specific would break through the general haze of laudatory recs, I'd think.

I know two girls who did that last year. One got into Dartmouth and the other .. umm.. Yale maybe? But I know they both went to KA schools.

of course that's fine ... why wouldn't it be? if you two are really best friends, then you should be able to write positive things about each other.

i did that with my best friend, for both Dartmouth and Williams.

We both got into both schools, I ended up at D, he at Will.

i'm curious to hear the negatives you thought of.

I know a pair at Dartmouth who wrote each other's peer rec. Obviously both got in.

Thanks for the info all!

BTW, the only "negative" I was thinking was that it may seem dishonest (spare me, I'm a cynic!).

my bff and I are also doing peer recs for each other for Dartmouth and Williams.
