I do not know where do I stand. Do i have any chance of getting into Dartmouth? I am an ED applicant. Please give me honest replies.

I really want to know where do I stand.....

I also want to mention that i have scored band 7 in IELTS.

Teacher recommendations: very good.
Essay: very good.( On my tribal proect and how it changed my vision)

Please please send me your honest reply plz…

I think you have a good chance but recent articles show that many schools, like Dartmouth, are seeing 20% jump in the number of ED applicants, so its gonna be tough this year. You definitely have some of the diversity that colleges are looking for. But i don’t know how international applicants are viewed. I’ve heard that internationals are compared with other applicants from their country. Hopefully a knowledged CC member can give you better insight on where you stand. Good luck :)

Thank you so very much for your reply:)

can someone help pls…

I think you have a more than 50% chance of being accepted. Although I must say I do not understand why people (not just you) do chance threads after they submit their apps. XD

I’ve done it once. Basically I was very insecure and wanted the forum to give me some input on my ED chances so I know what to expect, what not to expect and what to focus on. I’d say it’s healthy if you do chance threads after applying to get a feeling of where you stand, etc. But it’s NOT healthy if you do chance threads, get good responses and think you’re basically in.

Just a sidenote. OP, do you have any other form of standardized testing? Any Indian evaluation test that you can provide us? I didn’t really look that hard at your ECs, but 97 singing awards and like… 12 other ECs spell “stellar”. However, you do realize that common app only gives you 12 spaces right? Furthermore, filling the spaces doesn’t necessarily strengthen your application. It could, in fact, weaken it by seeming less focused than you want it to be. If you’re an arts student, emphasize art ECs; if you’re a debate/speech student, go for debate and speech ECs on your app. Your class rank is quite outstanding and definitely makes you a strong contender. If your essays and recs are as good as you say they are, then Dartmouth is definitely within your reach, although I’d say it’s still a reach because of the nasty competition this year.

Thank you so much:)

I want to do my higher studies in Business.

Is there any way by which i can know how many Indians (who live in India) have appllied to Dartmouth for ED?

Hi shalmali, I’m from India too(Delhi). We have the 11 years of Bharatanatyam in common. Although I don’t think I am as accomplished a performer as you! :)

I think you are very competetive even as an Indian applicant. I’d say chillax. Very good chances
Even if you don’t get D’mouth ED(which should not happen really, as you’re a very good applicant and I’d be surprised if you don’t get accepted), you should be good for many other great schools!
100 stage performances!!!
Best of luck!

As Dartmouth is one of a very small group of schools that gives generous aid to internationals, many, many Indians apply. So unfortunately the competition is fierce.

Most here have no way of assessing how you stack up to other Indian applicants, so take all comments with a grain of salt!

^Um. I’m Indian too. From a feeder city. :)

A similar applicant with strength in arts (ballet+ kathak+ gymnastics) got in to Princeton.
She didn’t have the rest of the stuff shalmali has. But she did have international stuff. Shalmali, are your dance performances in different cities, or in Mangalore only?

Also, we could evaluate you better if you could name the prizes and their value. A prize could be anything from 1st in Intra school dance competetion to state recognised.

However, I think OPs music speaks for itself. A released album is impressive.

Shalmali:
Your profile is a strong one, and it’s in the range of many who do (and do not) get accepted to Dartmouth.

However, it’s important to not get your heart set on on any one college - especially top schools like Dartmouth. There are too many variables out of your control.

I have given Dance performances in and around our State… Some in the neighboring states like Kerala etc. I have won state level recognitions for Dance. There were articles published about me too which i have sent to the college… Are they of any help??

That s so nice!! Hey do you have any idea ( rough figure ) about how many Indians applied to Dartmouth for ED??

Hi!!! Which college have you applied to?? Dartmouth?

Thank you all for replying and helping me out! Thank you very much

If the first two posts above are directed at me, then Hi there!
I am applying to D’mouth too, but Regular decision.
I wouldn’t worry about the number of applicants from India applying to D’mouth; it’s not a released number so no one can tell. Last year there were 200 applicants I think, but most people apply in Regular you know. I think the number is a LOT lesser for ED. Anyway, it doesn’t matter how many applied as many won’t be competetive na? We just have to worry about being competetive wrt the other applicants. And you’re a very competetive applicant, so don’t worry too much. At the same time start looking at some other schools too, fill out forms, yada yada.

I am curious to know why you ED’ed at Dartmouth though. Karnataka is a place I spent all my summers in and it’s a tropical place while New Hampshire is debatably one of the coldest places on the East Coast. What attracted you to D’mouth in particular over the other Ivies? (I did EA at Yale bdw.)
PM me if you like. It’s always nice to meet another Bharatanatyam dancer :)

If the first two posts weren’t directed at me, then well…this would be awkward. :p

Very, very high chances, I would say 80%+
