I want to go straight to college because I want the true 4 year college experience. Here is my GPA's
Acad GPA (9-12) Weighted: 2.52 Non-Weighted: 2.36
Acad GPA (10-12) Weighted: 2.53 Non-Weighted: 2.27
Total GPA (9-12) Weighted 2.72 Non-Weighted: 2.59

Failed Classes
Freshman Year: Geometry 1st and 2nd Sem D's
Sophmore Year: AP Euro 1st and 2nd Sem D's, HP English 2 1st and 2nd Sem D's, Algebra 2 1st Sem F.

As of now I finished 1st semester of Junior year with a 3.33. This semester I plan on getting a 3.5 or above. Mainly a 4.0. If I get a 4.0 my Non-Weighted GPA 10-11 will be a 2.7.

But that's not my main concern, all those D's will get me turned down by every CSU. But will colleges see past that and see I have got my act together and saw that I improved drastically? If I have to make up all those D's I will. I am taking 1st semester of English 2 right now at BYU. I plan on finishing two semesters of English 2 before the summer.

I don't know I am just really stressed out. I am taking the SAT June 2nd. I plan on taking some AP classes Senior Year.

Just be realistic with me, I feel so horrible struggling to get into a simple CSU. Please give your input.

Apply early as possible. MUST apply on first week of Oct … don’t wait until the mid or the end. This is very important because some CSU’s “seriously” consider early applications.
CSU’s “seriously” consider 1st semester of your senior grade.
MUST improve your SAT scores. With your current GPA, you need min total of 1400.
You will need to retake the “F” courses through BYU independent study or community college during summer before end of your senior year.
ok, lets assume you did all these and significantly improved your grade to 3.5, still … here are the CSU’s don’t even bother applying …
SLO, Pomona, Long Beach Northridge, SDSU, SJSU.
Here are lists of CSU’s you do have chance …
Bakersfield, East Bay, Channel Island, Los Angeles, Stanislaus.
My friend has 2.48 GPA (5 D’s) with 1350 SAT, and got admitted to Bakersfield, East Bay, Channel Island, Stanislaus for fall, 2012.

Ok that sounds good. I’m going to keep increasing my GPA so I won’t have to worry about me doing good on the SAT. And they do include 1st Semester of Senior Year? That’s awesome! My GPA will go up then. I’m going to take some AP Classes so it can get up. I’m taking English 2 1st Sem right now on BYU. Plan on finishing that before Junior Year ends.

You think I would have a shot at Chico State or SFSU?

I got into San Jose State, Chico, Sonoma and East Bay with a 3.25 gpa. I believe Chico is a real possibility and Sfsu might be somewhat of a stretch, but still possible.

The CSU’s do not consider your 1st semester senior grades. The only time they will actually see those grades (or your transcript) is when you’ve been accepted and have sent in your intent to register.

The other point that you should know is that you need to do more than remediate your ‘F’s’, you need to re-take any second semester 'D’s" as well. In other words, if you got a D first semester, followed by a C second semester, you’ll be OK (except for the havoc on your GPA). If you get a D second semester, you need to retake the full year. If you get D’s both semesters, you need to retake the full year or you will not qualify. Sadly, there is no consideration for an “upward trend.”

The CSU’s will not accept a student with any D’s, even if you have enough credits to be able to graduate. They clearly state this on their web site and it would take highly unusual circumstances for them to make exceptions – most campuses are impacted and oversubscribed as it is. The various CSU admission folks I’ve spoken to over the years say that kids with D’s need to go the CCC route to prove that they can do the work.
