My Amazing Friend's Chances

Hey guys, I'm posting this for a "friend". He is the absolute smartest, funniest, coolest, and most modest person I know. Ironically, he has the same exact stats, extracurriculars, and college choices as me (as seen in my old chances thread). What a coincidence!

Making it easier this time:
Brown University
Duke University

Both Regular Decision
Undecided major

Not applying for financial aid (not sure if this matters...)

White/male

I go to a prestigious (impossible not to sound pompous here) prep school; in the top 100 in the nation.

GPA: 4.15 (W); don’t know UW
School doesn’t rank, but I’d guess top 25% in a smaller-sized class
6 AP’s, many honors classes; courseload is considered rigorous, but not the most difficult possible.

ACT: Composite-34
English-35, Math-31, Reading-34, Science-35, Comb.English/Writing-32, Writing Score- 9 (What??? I thought it was really good, too!)

Most important extra-curriculars

Varsity Baseball (11-12)
JV Baseball (9-10)
Off-Season Baseball Leagues, etc (9-12)
Varsity Cross Country (10)
Ihigh.com Sports Writer (10-11)
JV Soccer (11)
Class Secretary (9); I also ran for class vice president twice (not that it matters, but at least shows that I tried to be a leader!)
Beta Club
Ultimate Frisbee (10-11); not-quite-official school team, that I play just for fun
Gourmet Club (9-10); wish I still had time for this. Such good food!

As you can see, baseball is my most meaningful extra-curricular. It is by far my most time-consuming and rewarding activity. I was recruited by a few Division III schools (none of the above listed, though).

Awards:
1) National Merit Commended
2) Spanish National Honor Society
2) Some honor rolls

That’s it.

Work experience:
No “real” jobs, but a couple of a cool things that I’ve done that I’m proud of.

Intern for production company (Summer before 11th grade): Long story, but I ended up getting to go out to Los Angeles and work on a major film set. Did lots of “interesting” odd jobs, and by interesting I mean mostly getting to move boxes and direct traffic.

Head coach/umpire for baseball (Summer before 12th grade): Very enlightening experience for me. I coached a little league team in a lower/middle class area. I did this completely on a whim; the team was going to have to forfeit because they had no coach. I know its cliche, but it really taught me a lot about being a responsible adult and helping out others. Also umpired games, even though I had no idea what I was doing.

Teacher Recommendations: 1 outstanding, 1 pretty good.
College Counselor Rec: poopie

So what are his chances at Brown and Duke? He would truly appreciate any responses!

are you kidding? you think we're idiots? we know its you so stop posting for your "friend". you use "I" in like a million places!

^ Ha. Nice.

Even if you hadn't used "I" and even if it weren't practically impossible for you guys to have the EXACT SAME everything....don't you think that you and your "friend" would have the EXACT SAME chances because of your stats?

My "friend" is highly offended by these replies. There is a plausible explanation for the use of all the I's. You see, I have a phobia of pronouns that aren't in the first person. It is very difficult for me to write (here we go) he, she, it, and they. Phew that was tough. So, instead of writing those words, I just used "I" instead. Is that so hard to believe? :)

My "friend" would still love to hear chances for Brown and Duke, because they are #1 and #2 on both of our lists.

must be really good friends ...

Man, you guys are taking it too seriously. Give him and his friend a break!

Anyway, I think chances are great, but you should have taken the SATs. And you shouldn't mention things you only did grades 9-10 and stopped, or just did in 9th. Unless you sent stuff in already. I wish your "friend" best of luck at Duke! (But at Brown, "he" is competition... unfortunately. Well, good luck at Brown too!)

How do you know how the recs are written? Didn't you waive rights?

Sunnyd137: Those are just predictions of how the recs will turn out. They are based off how well my "friend" knows the teachers, how well he performed in class, and just the overall feeling that he got from the teachers.

ah... good. because not waiving rights is bad.

Good luck dear :D

oh and say hi to your amazing friend ;)

ur and ur identical friend are fag5

^okay, that was rude

"ur and ur identical friend are fag5"

This coming from the kid who has made NINE chances threads in the past two months. Alright guys, this was meant to be taken lightly. If you haven't read all the way through, it's just a joke to try to lighten things up. It is obvious that I don't have an identical friend, although that would be cool. I didn't get enough replies last time, so I made a new one in hopes to be more successful. Well, I guess at least I've gotten some attention and readers. I would still love for someone to rate my chances, though.

top 25%? XD

but the sports are great, need leadership position

Unbelievable... I trusted you! You're nothing but a liar. In fact, I bet even your imaginary friend feels betrayed.

But he does have leadership... head umpire?

lol, i cant believe you guys seriously thought that he was posting this for his friend. i kinda read his first and second posts with a full understanding already that this post was for himself and not for his "friend", and he pretty much made this clear to everyone with the second post.

ah, some people are just really slow today or playing along with the joke, and in the process, stringing along the "really slow" people with their comments.

mashimaroban: My thoughts exactly. My final conclusion is that sarcasm and related humor just sucks over the internet. I have no idea if people are serious, kidding, or trying to dupe me into thinking they are idiots. The good news is, at least people are looking at the thread! By the way, I'm still interested in chances.
