My Berkeley Appeal

Hey CC,
So today I appealed my rejection to Berkeley L&S from Out Of State

Here are my stats
UW GPA : 3.81
UC GPA : 4.0
SAT : 2290 (770 in math and reading, 750 in writing)
Math II : 800, Physics : 800
ECs and Awards : pretty average, good enough to get me into Tufts University

I am appealing on the basis of my senior year grades which would be a 4.8 on the UC GPA scale (both trimester one and trimester two). Also, I just found out about my Letter of Commendation for the PSAT. Furthermore, in rereading my essays, I found that I sound very individualistic, so I wrote in my appeal about some more examples of my community service and about my passion for service. I also got a letter of recommendation from a teacher with whom I took part in a service project.

So a couple questions

1) I know that the chances are very slim, but what do you think about my case?

2) On the last page of http://web.archive.org/web/20131019162351/http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/compreview/0308_meeting/appeals_matrix.pdf I see that many students get in for spring admissions. Should I explicitly state that I would like to be considered for this?

3) I know that my appeal should focus more on why I am a good candidate, but should I also include my reasons for even wanting to go to Berkeley?

4) I submitted it today, so when should I hear back from them? Will making revisions affect when my appeal is reviewed?

Thanks a bunch =)

Why have you ruled out Tufts, might I ask?

Uhhh I’m not sure if good senior grades can reverse your decision. At least that’s what I heard from other schools. If you can make your case convincing enough with the other information you provided, then you might have a shot. Yes, include why you want to attend Berkeley. You should hear back after May 1st. Good luck! :)

I’ve heard it’s good to state what you will do for Berkeley not just why you want to go. Good luck!
