My brother is curently in the 2nd semester in freshman year. He has had decent grades and now its time for him to request classes. this was his freshman year schedule:
Geometry(honors)
World History (honors)
Biology
Spanish I
English 1
this schedule might seem very weak, yet it was because of a huge error his counselor made during scheduling when he entered freshman year. The counselor still refuses to admit she made a mistake.
anyways, knowing that competition is increasing for schools in california such as the UC's and USC, etc. i was wondering if his future soph. schedule is strong enough for top schools in california.

AP Euro
honors spanish II
honors english II
AP environmental science
Algebra and Trig. (honors)

Any comments will be helpful. I am going to college next year and I am worried he might be sent into 10th grade without a strong schedule.

AP Euro can be a very very demanding course; in our high school, it's for seniors. I don't know enough about AP environmental science to comment, but I wonder why your brother is not taking the more traditional science, such as chemistry?
Also, is he on block schedule or are you omitting non-academic courses from his schedule? My S has 7 classes, including PE.

I would also suggest chemistry instead of AP environmental science. Most colleges require 3 years of lab science, and I don't believe Enviro qualifies.

he is taking chem over summer. so far his science looks like this
freshman:bio
summer:chem
soph.-ap environmental
junior-AP Chem
Senior-AP physics.
he doesnt want to take AP Bio is for some reason, not sure why though.
so does his soph.

It's okay not to take AP-Bio. My S did not really care for the course, though he did well on the exam. If your brother wants to take AP Physics, make sure he takes AP-Calc either before or concurrently. His science courses now look solid.
