My Carolina Association

I have a child entering his freshman year at South Carolina and we keep receiving invitations to join MyCarolinaAssociation. Is this a good group to join?
Thanks!

Freshmen get a ton of junk mail to join different associations, societies, honors groups, dorm furnishing pitches, etc. The common theme = they all want money. For the $25 annual membership fee, the group you mentioned above will give you a discount card, a t-shirt and a cinch pack. You can also attend certain events.

There are so many events and other activities on campus, adding more events from this group isn’t going to enhance your college experience. However, if you have an extra $25 and want a T-Shirt and cinch pack the price isn’t too bad compared to some of the other mailings.

I will say that this is the official alumni association of USC and you are being offered chance to join as student. You look at the web page on USC website and see what they do.

Our student hasn’t done this, but I would consider this more “real” than some other group offers. You will have plenty of opportunities to join it later as a student and then after graduation.

Thank you for your advice!
