Hello,

I am starting my first year at City College of San Francisco and plan to transfer to UCLA as a communication studies major in two years. According to ASSIST I must complete 4 out of 7 major prep courses in order to be accepted as a communications major, but CCSF only offers two of them. What can I do?

Look for other schools within a reasonable distance that offer the courses you need, and take the classes there.

[ASSIST Report](<a href=“Welcome to ASSIST”>Welcome to ASSIST) indicates that CCSF is missing two out of the seven, so you should be able to take the other five at CCSF:

CCSF Math 80 (or 3 on AP statistics)
CCSF Speech 1A
any three of CCSF Political Science 1, CCSF Psychology 1 (or 4 on AP psychology), CCSF Sociology 1, CCSF Economics 3 (or 4 on AP microeconomics)

The other two courses, UCLA Communication Studies 10 and one of UCLA Anthropology 33, UCLA Communication Studies 70, UCLA Linguistics 1, or UCLA Sociology 24, do not appear in the articulation lists of any CC near CCSF.

Yes, these two are not that easy to find because they are only available at a handful of schools throughout California. One day I went through every single school on assist.org to find the schools that had a class for Comm St 10 (A school in my district had one for Anth 33, so I didn’t pay much attention to that section.) then I had to find which schools offered it online only seeing as I was not at all close to any of the campuses. It was a long and tiresome process.

-COMM ST 10 Classes-
SBCC - COMM 101
ECC - COMS 12 and either COMS 5 -or- JOURN 12
MOOREPARK - JOUR M1 & COMM M4
MARYMOUNT - CAR 100 & CAR 130
MOUNT SAN ANTONIO - JOUR 100 & SPE 26
SADDLEBACK - CTVR 1 & SP 5
SMC - COM 1 & SPE 5
SANTA ROSA - COMM 10
COC - COMS 246 & MEA 100

Are these classes offered at UCB through either summer session, their extension program, or regular session (if space is available)? I took my prereqs at UCB and right now I am doing upper divs there too to boost my app.

Is UCLA really important to you? Can you move there soon and take classes there during the summer, go to their local JC during the fall, and get involved in their campus clubs and stuff during the school year? That is what I would do if I was serious about going to a specific school under a very impacted major.
