My chances at Cal State LA, Fullerton and Long Beach? And getting in their nursing programs.

Cumulative GPA: 3.85
Unweighted GPA: 3.70
UC/ CSU GPA: 4.0
SAT Score: 1170

If necessary, I would take the December SAT to see improvements with my score. But I’m also curious about my chances of getting into these schools, especially in their highly competitive nursing programs.

CSULB’s program is not a direct admit so you will be admitted as a Pre-Nursing major and then have to take the pre-req courses with a specific GPA to apply to the Nursing program after Sophomore year.

Average CSU GPA for 2018 admits for Pre-Nursing was 4.04 and SAT was 1272. You will need to bump up your SAT to be competitive.

CSU Fullerton offers a direct admit Nursing program. You must be ranked in the top 25% of applicants based on your eligibility index as the first hurdle. Below is a link on their admission procedure including Letters of Recommendation, Essay and Interview. Again, your SAT will make it difficult. I would try to retake your SAT and aim for a 1300+ at least.

Cal State LA is not a direct admit program so you will need to take the Nursing pre-req’s and then apply to the Nursing program.

Admission to the Nursing program at Cal State LA is very competitive. Freshman applicants must first gain admission to the Pre-Nursing program, and then meet the program admission requirements during their first two years at Cal State LA.

To be considered for admission to the Pre-Nursing program, freshman applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Meet Cal State LA freshman admission requirements as stated above.
Have a minimum 3.50 GPA in the comprehensive pattern of college preparatory subjects (the ‘A-G’ courses).
Have earned ‘B’ or better grades in the following year-long high school courses:
Intermediate Algebra, Algebra II, or Integrated Math III
Biology with lab
Chemistry with lab
Be Aware: Each term of the year-long course must be completed with a grade of ‘B’ or better. If AP, IB, or Honors courses are taken in these areas, applicants must also earn a ‘B’ or better grade in the course.

Applicants who meet the above criteria will be ranked for admission and offered admission to Pre-Nursing based on spaces available. Students who enroll as a Pre-Nursing student will follow a very prescribed roadmap at Cal State LA, and must meet specific course grade and GPA requirements to continue in the program.

Local applicants who meet Cal State LA admission standards but are not offered admission to Pre-Nursing, will be offered admission to ‘Exploring Health Professions.’ Those who accept the offer of admission to this program will explore other majors that can lead to a career in related fields.

Students admitted to Cal State LA as Exploring (Undeclared), or as a major other than Pre-Nursing, will not be able to change their major to Pre-Nursing or Nursing during their tenure at Cal State LA.
