My chances at Cornell.

Yeah
But the prob is that I am from a small town in Haryana and don’t have much exposure here.
So i can’t even think of research( I went to a local college professor and when asked him about research he was like annoyed).
BTW what is the qualification for the Tata Scholarship @arpitswriting

@sahil123 LOL same case here, I’m from Bhopal. Nobody knows sh** about US education here all are running after JEE.
There is no certain qualification for the scholarship, although I’ve been touch with some of the scholars and emailed them, They told me the only thing is to get accepted and apply for financial aid, although getting into Cornell with financial aid is in itself a great task. As I emailed them I also asked about their extra curricular.
I concluded the following:

  1. Indians do get accepted in a good amount.(although some without the scholarship, they get FA)
  2. Good SAT score was a common trait. SATs were in 2250+ line.
  3. If you want college of engineering try focusing on EC’s which tilt towards your major (and SATs in 2300+ range)
  4. Only about 4-5 Indians are selected each year. (for the scholarship)(Last year it was 3)
  5. For College of Arts and Science your EC’s look great :slight_smile: and SATs are great.

Same here. People are mad about JEE.
Do you know how many Indians get admitted to Cornell every year? @arpitswriting

I am also prep for JEE which will help me to get perfect score in subject test sat since jee i way more tough than sat sub test … And if someone can do tough problems he can do the easy problems with ace

@arpitswriting which school in bhopal dps or billabong …

@Insitium none of 'em

@arpitswriting then ?

@Insitium Where are you from?
I’m from mansarovar public

Gosh! Your grades are amazing! I am thinking to apply to Cornell too. I will be applying ED to NYU.
I don’t have such good scores
All I have are my SAT scores, subject tests, and my programming languages
I learned a few programming languages, still trying to learn more.
After gaining a little expertise, I will develop an app too
I will be applying for Computer Science

Are these EC’s okay?
I can’t think of anything else

I guess you need something from National or International level. BTW what are your SAT scores? @Nimisha99

While Cornell is a great school, it is one of many. Don’t be so focused on a single school.
You have a chance, but I can say with certainty they don’t simply take those with the highest SAT/GPA.
There are many amazing people applying to a school such as this. Certainly research in Physics would
be a big plus, this is a major research university and that would be impressive, but it would also be impressive to many other research universities. Teaching kids is great too. Do what you like and go to the school that wants you exactly as you are.

I agree with above. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. International applicants have it especially rough when it comes to college admissions in the US. Apply to several schools (safeties as well) to ensure that you have an affordable choice that you are willing to attend, since rejection from Cornell (especially as an int’l) is not uncommon.

Increasing your score won’t do much… just stick with what you have right now. I’m just saying you should spread out your options. Like for me, I was rejected by Cornell but accepted into Princeton because someone at my school was already accepted early into Cornell. So maybe you could ED Cornell, but also have other options.
