My chances at Cornell.

I am Sahil from India. My SAT score is 1500, subject test Physics and Maths level 2 scores 800 each.
Class 9- 9.6 Cgpa
Class 10- 9 cgpa
Class 11- 91%
Class 12- 90%
I am the 4th ranker of the world’s largest inter-school quiz, Aqua regia. Many certificates for teaching underprivileged students, community service certificates, debate and quiz champion at school level. I also write a blog on Physics.
My desired course is Physics.

So, can I get into Cornell??

And yeah these are the scores for the new SAT (1500/1600)

Probably. I would have some safeties, but Cornell does not seem like much of a reach, especially if you continue on the physics path.
My two cents.

So can you tell me some specific extracurricular activity for Physics as I am on a gap year. What else can I do to increase my chances? @SeinfeldFan1

I am not sure specifically, as I do not know much about gap years. Possible things you could do would be to try to do science/physics research in some type of lab, or to do some substantial volunteer work involving teaching physics somewhere where it is not usually taught(?) Sorry, I really do not know much.
My two cents.

Yeah, I’ve been teaching Physics to underprivileged students.
Ok, so what is the final verdict?

@SeinfeldFan1

True, sorry I missed that. Besides working in a lab, I am not sure. Maybe taking some trip abroad and doing community service there? It seems like a lot of people go that route. I am sorry I do not know much more. Other posters may be able to help you more.
My two cents.

Please tag some other people who could help.
Would be much appreciated. @SeinfeldFan1

I would say you should have some more back ups, but you look pretty good. Chances also depend on other people applying from India/your region. They have tons of qualifying applicants, so just looking at stats is not enough to determine anything. Heck, most predictions here could likely be wrong

Okay, so what If I increase my SAT score to 1600. #worhexiz

@worhexiz

The best thing you can do is go look at the “Cornell 2020 Results Thread” and look at others who were accepted, waitlisted, or rejected and look at their stats and EC’s. I think you’ll get a much better idea from that thread than you will by asking others to guess at your chances. Good luck to you!

Here’s the link… although there is an Early Decision thread as well, and other threads from previous years (you can search)

thanks @bahiablue
Much appreciated.

to maximize your chances, apply ED. You look like a strong applicant, but it’s getting harder for international students to get into universities in the US especially Ivies, and especially from India. Good luck!

Yeah. I would apply for ED. My problem now is that I need one more thing for extracurricular like research, but I am unable to find it. Also I need to show them something creative that I have done in this gap year.
Suggest me something, that can really improve my chances @gormar099

Do you need FA? Your grades are good, so your set in that department. I got into Princeton this year will similar grades(from Australia) and don’t mention your name on College CONFIDENTIAL.

Yes i need financial aid. My parents earn less than $60000. and can at most pay 30000 for college per yer.
So is cornell suitable for me? @ozzieaussie

@sahil123 Cornell will be turning need aware so getting FA will be much more difficult now…
I think you should apply to other Safeties as well, like maybe Clark University, or some college which gives FA to International Students.
