My Chances at Dartmouth ED

Please evaluate my chances at Dartmouth ED.

Stats:
GPA- 4.17 weighted/ 3.76 unweighted
taking out freshman year, 4.3 weighted/ 3.8 unweighted
(School weights all honors and AP classes to a 5)

Rank: I think I am 6th or 7th out of 250ish...not very competetive

Took most a pretty challenging schedual, as many honors, aps as possible.

SAT I: 2160- CR-700, M-770, W-690... probably not retaking

SAT II: 770- Bio, 790- US History... taking IIC in october, hoping for an 800

AP- Junior year- Bio(5), US History(5)
Senior year- Calc, stat, self studying government and microeconomics

ECs: EMT- I am an EMT and I am starting to volunteer at my town's EMS service

Boy Scouts- almost eagle(getting it soon), ASPL(second in charge) for 2 years. Have random community service hours from that

Work- Lifeguard and aquatics instructor at a non-profit organization (YMCA), 15-20 hours per week during school, teach preschoolers and adults how to swim
Lifeguard at local beach last summer

Sports- Varsity Track- 3 years, Captain
Varsity Cross Country- 2 year

Violin- local youth orchestra- First violin section, been doing it for about 7 years...

Others: I participated in that Dartmouth Direct program, supposedly they said that was a benefit but I am not sure how selective it was...

I'd say you're pretty average for an applicant. SATs on the low end for an Ivy, and probably not as many leadership positions as they'd like.

hey - i was wondering if you could tell me what you think my chances at dartmouth are :

I live in south jersey, but commute to philly for school
I am going to apply early decision
I have a GPA of 3.3 unweighted (around 3.7 weighted) (4 AP's)
I have SAT's of 2200 ( 800 CR, 700 M, 700 V )
I am a varsity rower for an elite high school rowing team, and i am being recruited by coaches (one of the top rowers in the country)
I have won the national championships 2x for varsity rowing
I am in the irish culture, paintball, skiing, camping, and service club
I ran Cross-Country freshman year
I was a freshman retreat leader
I am an accomplished pianist
I am somewhat of a legacy (my brother is in the class of 2007)

Can you tell me what you think my chances are at darmouth, and some other schools you think would be a match for me ? Thanks guys
PS - does having my brother there really help?

yea...you definitly do not need to post your stats on my thread. Please make your own.

sorry im not really sure how to use this thing yet, my mistake - i didnt know what threads were i thought it was just open discussion

ok, just so you know. Contact the coach. Your GPA is on the low side, i guess, but i know a person who is getting into yale for rowing and his stats are about the same as yours.

Moving on...any one else? opinions? I realized that my background might make me stand out a little so I am writing about that. Came to the country at age 4...poor, both parents worked, moved around alot, not stable income until 5 years ago, taught myself determination... should I write about that?

Yes............

hmmmm. People are so touchy about posting rules. Let the guy post his stats on your thread.

Just so you know, I'm Korean and we were dirt poor when my parents immigrated to the US too. Most immigrants are. My parents have both worked all my life, and I was a latchkey kid throughout elementary. A lot of kids have working parents.

Write about one thing that you have a real big passion for. Colleges like passion.. and diversity. If you must write about your background, give an event that shows your determination.

Don't be broad. Write about who YOU really are.

This essay is esp. important for you. Essays can tip you on either side of the scale for an average applicant.

mmcgrath, if you get recruited you are definitely in. there are a lot of athletes here with stats much lower than average.
