In my school, students are generally allowed to take AP in Junior year (would be an elective because we have other requirements like Honors Physics, etc)

AP I take this year is Chemistry (Taking AP Test this Tuesday—projecting a 4)

That’s only a few of my ECs from my resume, what do u guys think, any advice or comments is helpful, Thanks!

bump (10 chars)

You have decent ECs, and a good class rank, but you really need to get your SAT or ACT score up a bit higher (2250 range for competitive admissions, 2100 for a decent shot) if you want to get into HYPS, Northwestern, Duke, and Georgetown. [If you're an URM, though, it might be slightly different]. Michigan might be a bit easier to get into, however.

thanks, Im studyin like crazy to get my standardized test scores higher.

whats an URM? Do the rest of my stuff other than SAT/ACT look good?

any other advice?

URM= Underrepresented Minority.

HYP: 12%
Stanford: 15%
Georgetown: 35%
Michigan- Ann Arbor: 60%
Northwestern: 25%
Duke: 22%

If you can increase your SAT scores by 100 points that would help you out a lot. I would add in some safeties, too.

runforfun- im a southeast asian minority (pakistani)

mj93, thanks but im curious how you get those statistics..

I know, SATs are a killer for me, mainly just the CR section-- I cant seem to find the trick, even though ive prepped from hundred of books, PR, Kaplan, Mcgraw-hills, except Barrons, cuz i never actualyl bought the book even though i heard it was good

anyways, im workin on my SATs, do my ECs look good, I think they are pretty science-based and i hope colleges will like that.

any other opinions

also mj93, what are my chances at johns hopkins?

Southeast Asian is not an URM.

i think some safeties are in order. it's such a gamble at all of those highly selective schools. a 30 isn't as spectacular as one might be led to believe. not saying you don't have a chance at all of them, but it's a crapshoot. find a good safety that you'd be happy to attend....but aim high...

i def agree with u, im workin on my sats and acts

o and by the way, i got safeties i just didnt list them cuz i figured they were easier

villanova, lehigh, upitt, bc, bu

bump bump bump

you really need to get a president/vp position in NHS, and get the SAT score to above a 2100.

whaetever it takes baby whaterver it takes

im defintely going to run for pres/vp, we have to give a speech for next years inductees in front of a large audience, Im a horrible public speaker but i guess 5 minutes of shame and total embarassment is worth getting into a substantial college.

ya i def gotta get my sat score up.

should i strive for a higher score in sat or acts? or both?

omarr, those %s are just my educated guesses, take them with a grain of salt. i would prioritize improving your SAT scores over improving your ACT scores.

pakistani? afaik, wouldn't that be considered middle-eastern? does middle eastern count as URM? i'm not sure..

John Hopkins: 25% (with increased sat scores)

thanks, and of course im sure ill be gettin great recs, and im def gonna be concentrating all my effort on my essays

SATs: 2030 (will be taking for the 3rd time in June)
ACTs: 30 (first time score, will take second time in June)
SAT IIs: - Math I: awaiting my May score, Plan to take Math II, Chem, Physics next fall

These scores will really hurt you if you don't bring them up. Otherwise, your ECs are stacked and look great. You're taking a fair amount of APs as well next year. Have you already taken any AP exams and gotten scores back? If you tell us the scores, we might better ascertain your chances of getting into schools.

i only took ap chem this year, and i took the test yesterday, im projecting a 4

well as i was sayin before i plan on running for a higher office in student coucil, im a senator right now, and plannin to run for like executive officer or somethin,

also im plannin to run for nhs president or another office.

do u think these will have a lot of impact on my college admissions?

also, on this june sat, if i dont raise it by much, do u think i can still have a chance in my colleges?

im sure i can raise math but CR is getting more and more diffuclit for me, but what if i raise it to low 1400s, do u think i still hava decent chance with my ECs, great reccomendations, and essays?

um... well as every1 else has said u need to increase SAT scores cause chances for you are slim as they are for most ppl. Do you have any major awards? What do you want to major in? Keep working hard. You can do it!! Good luck
