i'm planning to major in finance. i'm writing my essays as we speak. my top colleges are, in this order...

UPenn (just thought i'd take a shot in the dark to see what'd happen)
NYU
Georgetown
Boston College
UNC Chapel Hill
Penn State

ya kev, u got a good shot at those places. im surprised, because it seems you underestimate the strength of your candidacy. UPenn is by no means a long shot for you, esp with all those out of the ordinary ec's.

thanks for the comments everyone. the main problem i see when i look at my hopes for getting into college is my GPA. it's not TERRIBLE, but isn't it way below average for places like Penn, Gtown, + NYU? people constantly stress the importance of your academic record, and i feel like i came up a little short there.

I don't really know what I'm talking about, but it seems to me too that you have a good shot at NYU. However I have to disagree with the "out of the ordinary ECs" (though they're certainly not bad). I have very similar ones and so do a lot of others. I think your strenght is your super good SATs.

hm. what would you think about my chances at penn? i do have two cousins who went there, but i'm not sure if they donate money. also, i have a prominent graduate from wharton who is going to write me a recommendation. i know it's hard, but what would my chances be there?

your SAT is really high, I'll be shocked if you don't get in. you're right about the GPA, it's kinda low for schools of the caliber youre applying to. with those test scores and ECs though, you're in at NYU. Even Upenn is possible (apply there early if you really want to go)

youre applying to nyu stern, which has an acceptance rate of 22%. youre definitely not guaranteed into stern. your awards arent that spectacular, but you have good ec's and great SAT score. id say you have a 50% chance of getting into nyu stern. if i were the adcom, i would not immediately accept you after skimming down your stats. they are above average, but i dont know if theyre better than 78% of the entire applicant pool. not to mention, upenn wharton's acceptance rate is less than 10%. you have a 20% chance of getting into wharton. if youre black or hispanic, then you're definitely in at nyu stern and have a 40% chance of getting into wharton.
