SChoe101, we have similar stats (check out my Steinhardt chances thread), so I have an idea of where you stand. We even took the exact same SAT II tests on the exact same day. Your composite SAT score from your two tests is a 1990, which is low for Stern, but should be good for CAS. Your GPA is quite good and having $$ should certainly help you. However, your SAT II US History is low. NYU looks at 2 SAT II's, so they will consider that 510 in the admissions process.

Bottom line: NYU CAS is a match/slight reach. NYU Stern is a reach. Good luck. Maybe we will both be in the class of 2011.

and thanks for the replies so far! Sounds bleak for NYU, maybe I shouldn't have gone for Stern (my focus is on Math anyways)...hopefully I can get into UW ^_^ (University of Washington).

Since apparently I am likely to get rejected from Stein, should I send another application for CAS (my intent in major is Math anyways....)? Is this allowed?

I don't think you can mail them another applciation..

why don't you

1) call the admission office and ask

or

2) directly mail them a written statement of your new choice..

In my opinion, you should have applied for CAS.. your stats are not as competitive as those aiming for Stern (which is tough as an ivy).

"GPA: 3.79 (Unweighted). My small private religious school offered no AP courses, so I opted with a few Honor classes. " --> this is your biggest disadvantage on your application. If you had a 3.8 unweighted with at least 3 AP's I would say that you have a chance.

god, so after i talked with someone who knew about colleges, he said that CAS is "the" way to go for math majors, so I made a HUGE mistake it seems.

However, I really don't want to **** them off by calling them or whatever, one can expect that they are very stressed with so many applications...

sigh... ^^

i'll try calling them nonetheless.

and no, on the site, it says i can't apply to more than one college at the same time.

and for those who didnt read up, i did apply to stern, but not going to call them, since they would look at me as irresponsible =/ + they probably wouldnt even allow it.
