14 year old African male, from war torn Somalia. Born in a Kenyan refugee camp, spent 12 of 14 years in Seattle. Currently in 9th grade honors classess. Terrible at math. Good in the humanities, history ect. Poor, many siblings, underprivileged. I had an interview with the Associate Director of Admissions of PAE today. He called my application "good profile" or something like that. And he also asked me If I'd be willing to repeat the 9th grade:If I'm accepted, because I am applying for a 10th grade spot. He also said the school would give me a free trip from Seattle to New Hampshire to see the Academy. I don't know if he meant if I get accepted, or before that. So what are my chances? The vocabulary/essay porition of the SSAT will be easy for me. But math is my weakest point. I was never taught math properly in my current School District...

I think if he said just to see the academy it will be before any acceptance letter. I guess it depends on the person. Do you have any extracurriculars? What you lack in math could be made up for in something else...

My extracurricular is I work at the local Somali Community Center. I translate for the none English speakers, read them government papers, and generally help the illiterate and old disadvantaged folks.

That's good do you play any sports?

A few months of crew. Other then that, no. Seattle weather isn't exactly sport friendly.

** Right now I do crew (rowing) M-F 2 hours a day. Started in June***

Well, if you believe the math portion of the ssat will be difficult for you I would suggest getting a workbook that specializes on the ssat. I'm sure that you would want all parts of your application to be strong and since exeter has such a small acceptance rate I would do that just to be safe. :) good luck! it sounds like you have a solid application!

oh cool! im from seattle too and im applying to both. i wish i could of made it on thursday but my dad had to work....PM me!
