My chances at Rice University?

-Unweighted GPA of 3.8

-2 AP's so far, 3 next year.

-Play a ton of instruments (ranging from saxophone to recorder to piano to xylophone, etc.)

-Have a passion to learn, I just love learning for learning's sake.

-Captain of Varsity Soccer team

-Varsity soccer all years, Varsity Tennis all years, varsity football kicker two years.

-Over 60 hours of community service

-Have a job during the summer

-I Take very rigorous coursework

-My best attribute is my leadership. I believe that high school, college, life, etc. is what you make out of it, and I would like to continue to make the best of my life and the lives of others around me at my favorite institute (Rice)

Here are my goals for this next year (Junior Year)....

-Receive Straight A's

-Make unweighted GPA above a 3.9 (weighted above 4.0)

-Receive a 33 ACT. But a more realistic goal based on my test taking ability is 30 (with writing)

-Get all 4's and 5's on my AP exams this year.

-Join all-shore band on saxophone

-Well I am really into soccer, it's my passion. So I had a crazy idea. Maybe I could go out and get people to pledge money for every minute my team played soccer (against another team or my travel team.) We would try to play for hours on end, and raise a bunch of money, which I would really like to donate to a foundation to help needy children.

-I know my fair share about colleges, so I have some clients that I have been helping in college searches. I would like to help about 20 more students, and then compile all my information into a binder to show to admissions officers at interviews.

-We don't have a debate team at my school, and I have a small passion for debate. I would like to be the founder of my school's debate team.

-Do an internship.

I am just smitten by Rice, and would love to attend. Does anyone know if I seem like Rice material? Because I think I do!

Take the SAT and subject tests (even if they aren’t required; it shows initiative). And don’t go into the ACT thinking “i’ll only be able to get a 30.” I didn’t know what to expect from the ACT in terms of how well I’d do, and I ended up with a 33. If you WANT to get a 33, then will yourself to do so. Be confident, because a lack of confidence is what takes down so many capable students on the SAT and ACT.
That being said, your EC’s are impressive and show leadership skills like you’ve said. Right now you’ve got a decent shot at Rice, but keep bringing up that GPA if you want a really solid chance. Write killer essays that show a unique persona–and this goes for any school–they look at stacks of papers, and if you stand out to them from everyone else as driven or even quirky, they love that. However, in your essays, do not write anything along the lines of “I love learning for learning’s sake;” it looks cliched, and if you want to stand out, avoid any and all cliches and fallacies.
If you can, think about taking more AP courses, because it shows determination and rigor. Or self-study for some exams.
Best of luck in your junior year, 'cause it’s killer, but you seem pretty well prepared.

Chance me back, by any chance?
