Chance For Rice University? Please & Thank you :)

Hi! So I was wondering what my chances were for Rice University. After looking around on these forums for a while, I have noticed that so many well qualified people get rejected from Rice. :o
I was wondering what were my chances, and what should I improve in order to make me a better candidate. Rice is my dream school, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you very much!

Junior

1st generation

I’d say that if your SAT score comes back as a 2200, you have a GREAT shot.
I’d say your strengths (not to be insensitive) would be 1st G and income. Also, GPA is killer!
I think you activities are solid, but somewhat uninspired (other than your music, of course).

So yeah, with a 2200, though I’d still say low reach (it is for EVERYONE), you got as good a shot as any.

Thank you very much for replying! Is there anyway I can improve my chances? What would be some activities that are inspired? I’m going to be volunteering at a hospital this summer, so would that help?
Thank you again!

Are you 1st generation American or 1st generation college student or both?

Either way, you have a pretty good chance of getting in, but it depends on your SAT.

Maybe some activity in which you reach a great goal. Shoot me a message and I’ll tell you:)

@Hawkace Both I think? Neither of my parents graduated from college, and I was born in the U.S. after they came from China & Vietnam

@Anonymouse1225‌ Yep, I would consider you as both, thus giving you a higher chance of being selected.

Thank you very much everyone! I was wondering, does a parent starting college but never finishing it still make their child eligible for first generation?

I would say its a match. Also, don’t quote me on this, but I think a parent with some college but no degree won’t get rid of your first generation status.

Thanks for the reply Nflpackers96!

Are 1st Generation American & 1st Generation College Student two separate things? I’ve actually never heard of 1st generation American. Can someone please inform me about how these two would affect my chances at admission?

Well I just got back my SAT scores, and I made an exact 2000. :frowning: I’m hoping to do better on the ACT this Saturday, but can anyone tell me how the 2000 will affect my chances for admission to Rice? Thank you in advance.
