I've wandered these forums for a while but I finally decided to create an account to ask the questions I am seeking answers to. I would like to know an educated guess of my chances of gaining admissions into these Florida Schools, and please specify if you think i'd qualify for scholarship money.

Essays: Took a lot of time to write them. Used large vocabulary and fulfilled each length requirement.

I can provide any additional info that is needed.
Thanks in advance!

Good ACT, lower end GPA, Id say you would most likely be in for Central and South Florida, and possibly Florida State, yet florida is always unpredictable with the range of applicants they accept, yet you have little EC involvement, so make sure to show interest and be involved. Chance me back!

Your test scores are great for these schools and a little above average for UF. Not to be conscending, but your gpa is low for all the schools listed except maybe USF and you ec’s are also lacking. I think you would be a good fit statistically at UCF or USF unless you raise your gpa or add ec’s to your list. Although I don’t think raising your gpa at this point would help much, you still may have a chance at upping your extracurriculars. Also, your gpa may be explainable if something traumatic happened or if your courseload was very rigorous. What classes have you taken. Anyways take everyones with a grain of salt because none of our answers are definite! Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I’m taking the ACT again in December and I’m doing my best to bring it up to a 31+ and bring up my GPA and EC’s, so that when I reapply I can just send it a whole new app. I’m certain I will get into UCF and USF, and I thought I would get into FSU as well because they superscore the ACT and a 30 ACT/3.78 gpa doesnt seem bad, right? Regarrding UF, I can see how I many not get a scholarship at this school but I thought I would atleast get in considering my high ACT, community service, and combination of AP and Dual enrollment courses over 2 years.

Don’t consider UCF a sure thing, they are becoming increasingly tougher to get into and are very close to that of FSU @friendlychemist

Let me revise what I said, you’ll get into both schools more than likely, I was just stating they were similar, yet USF is a safety for you.

@Italkgood I understand what you are trying to say. I’m not sure if you live in Florida but I do and I have done extensive research on these universities. UCF and USF are very similar, though USF might be slightly easier to get into because they superscore the ACT. Honestly, FSU is just as easy to get into as UCF and USF. Just take a look at the graph showing the acceptance rate to each school (their almost the exact same):

UCF: <a href=“UCF: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA”>http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/ucf-admission-gpa-sat-act.htm
USF: <a href=“USF: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA”>http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/university-of-south-florida-usf-admission-gpa-sat-act.htm
FSU: <a href=“Florida State University: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA”>http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/florida-state-university-admission-gpa-sat-act.htm

I know my GPA is not AMAZING but it is the mid 50% of applicants at USF and UCF, and basically FSU. However, my ACT score is above the 50% range at each school. According to their website UCF’s and USF’s averages are both 27’s and FSU’s is 28. This means I have a 2 point advantage at each school, I’m guessing 75% of applicants have an ACT/SAT score equal or below mine so as far as my test scores are concerned, I feel like they should balance out my GPA. I also wrote some great essays and letter of recommendations so that should help.

One last thing: Do you think I will be awarded any scholarship money at these four schools if I get in?

Thanks.

Bump.
I’d like to get some more opinions on this.

@friendlychemist, I am a Florida resident, and I can agree with you, FSU and UCF are very similar and USF is easier than those two, and I believe that You’ll be in for at UCF, FSU and USF, but UF has a very holistic approach in choosing the applicants they admit. That is why I said they are a toss up year to year on who they admit, I wasn’t in any way saying you will be denied, just that standardized testing isn’t everything, very important, yet it isn’t everything. Oh, and I believe you’ll have scholarship opportunities for the three I thought you will for sure be into, especially USF. Good luck!

@Italkgood Thank you. I think i sounded a little arrogant when stating my opinion of the schools admissions rates so I apologize. Since you are from Florida, I don’t know if you’ve heard of Bright Futures, but I have the higher tier which pays for I think 75% of your tuition at any Florida school. I’m anxious and hopeful to see if I get any additional scholarships. I will chance you on your thread now!

I was speaking for additional scholarships, the Bright futures scholarship was something like 103$ a credit hour last year.

Bump any more thoughts?

FSU and UF are reaches (4+ WGPA would be needed to require as matches), and as you said UCF is increasinbly selective and closer to FSU, so it’s a high match. USF is close to a safety and you should get a scholarship in addition to Bright Futures, but add’l scholarships are unlikely (or in very modest amounts) at all three others.
Are you applying to any other university (Rollins, Tulane…?)

@MYOS1634 Those are the only schools I’m applying to in Florida, besides Florida Tech which I already got accepted to.

Regarding FSU: Here is what FSU’s admission page says applicants should have to be considered: 3.8-4.3 academic GPA; 26-30 ACT composite. My GPA (3.78) is basically the minimum GPA requirement (3.8). However, my ACT is the highest ACT requirement (30)… So I thought these would balance out in some way.

Regarding UCF: My sister attends UCF and she had basically the same stats as me, except she had like a 3.8 UWGPA and a 4.3 WGPA and she got the Silver Pegasus which is I think $20,000 over 4 years. I asked her and she said I’d probably get the Bronze Pegasus, or higher if I improved my grades and ACT and reapplied. Don’t you think you are overestimating UCF? I mean I know people with 23 ACT’s and 3.5 UWGPA that have gotten in.

As for UF: I know UF dosn’t even give that many scholarships in the first place, so if I were to get accepted I probably wouldn’t go there. I’m not sure if I’ll even get in to be honest because I don’t have that many EC’s and GPA isnt too high. Only thing that might be a game changer would be my relatively high ACT that I’m relying on.

1 last question: Do most Florida colleges look at your UW or Weighted GPA?

weighted GPA, and GPA is factored in more than ACT score. strength of curriculum is also more important than test score. EC’s play only a small part.

@MYOS1634 Oh ok. But a 3.8 isnt that bad right? I really want to get into USF or UCF with a scholarship. If I dont I might consider FSU or somewhere out of state.
