My chances at Tufts?

Hey,

Going to apply to Tufts this fall and was curious about my chances, I know they're not high(due to my GPA, etc), but just wanted some input anyway.

ACT:
Composite - 30
English - 26
Science - 29
Math - 28
Reading - 35

Rest of my stats.

Stats:

GPA: ~3.477 unweighted, ~4.02 weighted, these will hopefully be a bit higher by the end of first semester this year.

Rank: 65/592 (Top 10.9%), should go up quite a few spots after this first semester.

Classes last year (Junior year):
AP Psychology (A's) "4" on exam
AP US History (A's) "4" on exam
AP English Language & Comp. (A's) "3" on exam
Precalculus Honors (C's and B's)
Physics Honors (A's and B's)
Debate VI Honors (A's)
Government Honors (A's)

Note:
Brought Physics from a "B" to an "A" from 1st to 2nd semester, and brought Precalc from a "C" to a "B" from 1st to 2nd semester, so, rising GPA...

Extra-Curric:

Debate Team (~325 NFL Points...for those who know what those are), this is my passion, I've competed in 5 different event categories as well, and placed in 3 of them (Student Congres, Oral Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Public Forum, Policy)
President of Debate Team
VP of Law Club
Lead Attorney on Mock Trial Team
Social Studies Honor Society
JETS

Community Service:
Camp Counselor at local summer camp: ~125+ Hours
helping with middle school debate team: ~15+ hours

Work: Public Library (20 Hours/Week), hope this looks good since it's for the state.
Previously was a Lead Graphic Artist and ran my own PC Repair Company.

Background: Single-Parent Home, Dad pays no child support, etc. Roman Catholic, Irish-Italian, Public School in Florida

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

~Ben

I think you have a good chance, but an even better chance if you apply ED.

I would, but unfortunately, the financial situation I'm in prevents me from being locked in somewhere, I just can't risk having to go somewhere that can only cover like 70% of my need. I appreciate your input though! Anyone else?

Any other input?

Any more opinions?

Well, I'm applying ED I now, what do you guys think?

Good luck!

^ Thank you!

Anyone else?

I think your chances are pretty good, but will go up exponentially if you visit Tufts, do the tour, sit in on a few classes, eat in one of the dining rooms, take in a concert or show, do an overnight and such. Investing the time and money into such a visit will pay off in spades. Applying ED and making that all important, comprehensive visit will show HUGE interest, and for kids on the borderline for acceptance, this could be just what you'll need to tip the scales in your favor. Then you can write your "Why Tufts" from your heart, based upon specifics you've learned from that on campus visit, avoiding regurgitating info other applicants will simply find online.
Call admissions NOW and ask how you can book an overnight visit. Ask if you can have an oncampus interview. Then get cracking on that application, especially the ED essay which you'll find on the front page where you sign the ED agreement (some applicants miss it as it's not bolded or anything, my son almost did!). MUCH LUCK to you!

^ I already applied, unfortunately, I cannot afford to visit, I am going to the information session that's about an hour away and my interview will go well.

Applying ED will give you agreat shot even without the visit. Good luck!

^ Good, well, that's great to hear, my ED I application is all in, and hopefully come Dec. 15th or so, I'll get a big fat envelope!

Anyone else?

I recently went to an information session, I drove over an hour away to go to it, and met the local admissions officer, and he was very friendly, I now, more than ever want to go to tufts. Do I have any shot ED I?

UPDATE: AP Scholar Award (I know, everyone gets it, but still).
3rd Place at Wake Forest University National Earlybird Forensics Tournament in Public Forum Debate
1st Speaker Overall at Wake Forest University National Earlybird Forensics Tournament in Public Forum Debate

Doesn't Tufts require SAT IIs?

^ Not if you submit your ACT's, they only require that with writing.

BUMP, recently won 1st and 2nd places at regional invitational debate tournaments as well, in addition to Wake. Any ideas?

Anyone else?

I can't wait until Dec. 15th, the suspense is killing me! I want in to Tufts so bad...
