My chances at UC's and Cal States

My GPA's about 3.5 weighted.
I had 4.3 GPA in freshman year, but I messed up in soph year, 3.0 and 3.5.

I had 3.8 and 4.0 in my junior year.

I did not take any AP's until this senior year.

I have over 100 hours for community service.

I did compete in FBLA and placed. I won a national art contest in freshman year.

My latest SAT score was 1940, but I took one last week and I think I did better.

I got 800 in Korean SAT II with listening.
I got 780 in Math 2 SAT II

I really want to pursue engineering,
at UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCD, or Cal State Poly Pomona.

I have financial difficulties which explain my sudden drop of GPA
also I'm an immigrant of about 5 years.

What are the chances of me getting into any of these schools?

Can someone please answer?

engineering demands higher statistics. your gpa isn’t helping. assume 2000 sat 1 /w 700+ math section
UCLA - high reach
UCSD - reach
UCSB - low reach
UCI - low reach
UCD - low reach
Cal Poly Pomona - match/low match

is that your uc gpa? what was the financial difficulty?

Yeah, my UC GPA’s about 3.51 weighted. really low…

And the financial difficulty was that my parents did not really have a stable income for all of my high school years. They used to own a restaurant but that didn’t work out. Sophomore year, all the immigration stuff and closing the restaurant took so much money, and that’s when we had the least money. It was really stressful for all of us, even though I should’ve tried harder. Anyways, now all that stuff has been fixed just this month, so my parents have about $4000/month income for both combined.

Thanks for answering, and please comment further!

you might be able to address the difficulty for some boost, but i doubt it. there are still quite a bit of students, especially these several years, that apply with very low income. consider adding more csus in case federal aid (which you should apply for) does not offer enough for you to attend a uc. also consider community college to attempt to transfer to a uc.

I was considering Cal State Long Beach and Fullerton. How low of income is it normally?

I have another question. Is it easier for girls to get into Engineering at Cal States or UC’s?
and is it really hellish like they say?

can’t answer question one. it varies too much.

i don’t think it would make a difference, even though engineering is a male dominated field.

the engineering field is simply harder intellectually. this is applicable in almost every college.

how much harder depends on the college and how they like to structure their engineering college/courses.

here’s what i found from uc entrance statistics specifically on engineering
base on your own profile

ucla 0%
ucsd 8%
ucsb 17%
uci 8%
ucd 15%

good luck

I know that UCs put lots of emphasis on GPA and SAT. If you have a high mark in both, then you’re probably guaranteed into UCSD, at the least. Unfortunately, with the stats that you have and the tremendous competition for engineering, your shot at these schools are, I hate saying this, low.

Can you chance me at some other easier major then? any major that’s not impacted as much as engineering please?
