My chances at USC?

Hey everyone, I'm a student at Santa Monica College right now (Business student). My dream school is USC. I guess I'm not your typical transfer student. I've been at SMC for 7 years now. Out of High School, I had family issues which forced me to work about 60 hours per week. Consequently, my GPA was not spectacular as you can imagine (2.5). Most of the time, I didn't take a full load of classes. Some semesters 1 class, some semesters 3 classes. Anyway, this year, my situation changed, and I was able to focus solely on school. I've taken a full load of classes the last 2 semesters and earned a 4.0 gpa. Spring semester, I took 12 units, Summer 6 units, and 18 units now in the fall. In the Winter, I plan on taking Calculus I and a GE class (8 units in total). If I were to earn a 4.0 GPA these last 4 semesters (through winter semester), do I have any chance at USC? If everything goes well, through winter my final GPA should hover around 3.2 (I'm hoping they would base their decision more upon my later work than my entire transcript). Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I not sure how USC evaluates their applicants but the only classes that count are the ones that are transferable to the UC. Check which classes apply to this. In your particular situation, I think you have a GREAT chance in being accepted. They should understand your hardship(s) and take that into consideration. Remember to emphasize why it took you 7 years to transfer and you should be in, GUARANTEED!

great life story, they'll buy it.

bump.........

BTW, I too attend SMC. I really think that it's capable of being a CSU.

bump... anymore opinions? Thanks.

i wanna go to usc next fall as well...im at gcc, 3.51 gpa, same major...but someone replied on mine that u need 3.7-3.8....that seems a bit high since berekley is that average....dont really buy into that....my best guess would be a minimum gpa of 3.4 for usc business....but they may take your situation into account...hope we both get in

paliguy, I heard that if you hold a 3.6 GPA then you'll have a really good chance of being accepted to USC.

Hey...

your recent efforts really do speak a considerable amount about your dedication. It's hard to say... Have any serious EC's maybe? For starters, of course, SC's Marshall bus. is very competitive, and I heard from a prospective bus. student that their bus. is more competitive than their engineering dept. overall.

average GPA for transfer is a 3.5, but obviously with your story, there is more to consider. I would call and ask the transfer department at USC, could be very helpful. I did that with u wisconsin madison, and they have been very helpful and i have a somewhat odd jr college experience my self (i had scholarship for tuition, not enough for books for first semester, and living on my own, i could never afford books, the 1 class i finished in a year, i did by using online powerpoints to study) Just call them and they can help. I have so far 2A's 2B's 6W's and 1F (and 18 units now) which i am making up and i went for it, so u should too, and u can always try again another semester
