My chances for admission to UPenn?

I know that there is no way for anyone to tell, but I'm applying to university of pennslyvania in the fall. I will be a senior in HS, graduating in 2011, and I plan on applying early decision and If I am deferred I will apply regular admission too.

SAT I: Math: 800
Writing: 800
Critical Reading: 600

GPA: 3.83 weighted/3.6 unweighted. Also notable that I got all A's 2nd semester of junior yr.

Extracurriculars: Student body president, Junior year speech contest 1st place, debate team, outdoors club, fishing club.

Sports: Varsity rugby- senior, junior, and sophmore year. JV baseball-freshman year

Im a white male applying from the northern virginia/ wash dc area.
Once again, I know its impossible to tell for sure, but what would you say my chances are?

With respects to my GPA, my school is a very competitive private school, which I’m hoping upenn will take into account

Oh and if you think i have a good chance at upenn, what about applying to Wharton (Upenn’s business school)?

GPA is low, CR is low.

Good ECs - try and get some club leadership and volunteer work.

Honestly, I’d put you at a 20% chance, but you can definitely improve this year.

Are you planning on taking the SATs again? You could easily put in a bunch of CR work over the summer, and if you can raise that score 100 points or so, you would have a wonderful superscore that could greatly raise you chances.
I would say you’re a strong applicant.

Arts and Science possibly, but nothing really indicates that you have a passion for business or are at all business oriented. You have a good chance at A&S if you pull up your SATS.

For a white student from a good private school, a much higher CR score will be necessary for both CAS and Wharton. As for GPA, it will depend on where you rank in your class, whether or not your school officially ranls or not (they will know).

Are you getting recruited? That will change everything.

Sat scores look good. GPA could be higher but is explainable if HS is competitive.

Unless you’re being recruited for rugby, I’d say mid-to-high reach. Can you get your GPA to a 3.75 or higher? Also 600 in CR will hurt alot, that’s way below the median score for admitees. Being a male white from the east coast will also hurt. I dunno… you do have a shot though, probably around 20% right now, as someone said earlier.

do you take honors/ap classes?

GPA and test scores are going to get you rejected. Penn is out of reach.

Bump your CR up to 750+. Otherwise, Penn is quite a reach.

Sorry, I meant to say that my critical reading score is 660

soph year: 1 AP, 1 honors
junior read: 2Ap, 1 honors
Senior year: 4AP

SOrry, I meant to say it was 660. do you think that is still too low?

Frankly, yeah, it is too low. Being a white male, you need a 700+ in all three sections to be seriously considered. I’m not saying you don’t have a shot - you do. But you’re not a serious contender if your GPA is below 3.75 and your CR score is below a 700. This is just my interpretation from looking at the UPenn page at College Board… other people may disagree.
