Strength : good gpa(like all other applicants would have), expected to have good official test scores. Do have a lot of passion for science and I'm going to major in aerospace engineering. Confident to produce good college essays. Weakness : no major awards, lack in ecs. Nothing outstanding nor special.

Thanks for any advice.

P.S. Any recommendations for things that I could do during summer? Most of the summer programs are either held in US, which I can't afford to go, or have their deadline passed months ago. I personally want to do research with uni professor but I have no idea how to find these kind of opportunities.

Ok well to start off, your academics are stellar. You seem to have a fantastic knack for challenging classes. That being said, your SAT score could be higher (or act for that matter) since it is low in comparison with the schools you are applying for. I would HIGHLY recommend that you apply to some safeties/ mid levels (UCLA is very probable) considering your extra curriculars are rather average for UCLA and weak in terms of your other choices, but you never know. Focus on doing something you like this summer, and do it well enough to show that you have a dedication to it. All reaches but UCLA you will probably get in. Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1317220-chance-me-my-college-choices.html

I think you can get into UCLA, but the competition at the others among Asian intnls means you’ll need much higher scores and break out ECs. You’ll have to be full pay though, UCs don’t give aid to intnls.

^True but sadly there are some limitations for ecs in international schools…
Especially in Europe, there are few math/science related competitions compared to the states. And since I don’t speak the local language, which is french btw, I can’t do anything practical locally…
Does the universities take this into consideration???

From what I’ve heard from my counselor, it’s a bit harder for international students to do anything. With that in mind, here’s your chances.
MIT-pretty hard but for whom isn’t getting into MIT hard?
Princeton-Dream school, you have a decent chance
Caltech-Same as MIT, just because they only choose so little.
Stanford-More chance than princeton, very likely
Yale-Same as Princeton
UCLA-Very likely, most likely should be somewhat of your backup school

They’re all probably high reaches for you except UCLA, which is a match. Your SAT scores are a bit low, and your extracurricular seem very generic.

I suggest you start an ec, if like you said they are limited. This will show real leadership skills and innovation. Idk where you live but is it feasible to volunteer with another organization than church or school, even if you don’t speak French? If so, I’d highly recommend it.

Princeton, Yale, and MIt are need blind for international students, while the rest are need aware. How much your parents are willing to pay can be a factor in whether you get in or not. It is extrememly hard to get into Stanford while asking for aid as an international.
Overall, I think you have decent chances, but definitely need more safeties and target schools @trumpeteer, why is Stanford likely? It is just as competiive as Yale and Princeton

Thanks for all the guys who chanced me.
I surely see that ecs are my weak point but I really have no clue how to make further improvements…
As someone said, what I have are extremely “generic”.
However, I don’t know whether I’m trying to be optimistic and see the bright side, but I can’t stop thinking :
“If the university only admits around 150 intl’ students and assuming that at least 100 of them have crazy ecs and awards, won’t I still be a match for the remaining 50 places?”
Of course I’m probably not the only one who’s thinking this but anyway, what are your thoughts?

The competition for the few intnl seats is fierce unless you come foam rare country sending few applicants. They get many more highly qualified intnl candidates than they can accept. Intnls tend to pick the same few schools. You’ll have a much better shot if you choose some less ought after colleges with higher than 10% admit rates.

You have outstanding academics, but you might want to apply to other slightly easier schools, because although I’d definitely say that you’ll probably end up getting into at least one of those, if you’re rejected from all of them you’re screwed!

Being an international student myself, let me enlighten you. The competition for internationals is extremely intense. For mit, the acceptance rate was 3% last year. They only accepted ~10 students from china, and less from other asian countries. Almost all of them had a science/math oylmpiad gold medal and or published research and or extremely high sat scores and aps.
All 150 students will be extremely qualified.
