I am a high school white male going into my Sr. year. What are my chances at these schools?

My highest combined SAT scores are:
Verbal - 450
Math - 660
Writing - 610

I'm not sure yet if I'm gonna take the SAT's again as I've taken them twice so far and do not want to spned my summer prepping for the SAT

My GPA was a 3.59 after sophomore year, but I expect it to go up to a least a 3.7 (NOTE: this is on a sclae where A+ = 4.6 , A = 4.3 , A- = 4.0)

My ECS arent that great. I am in FBLA, ive been playing rec basketball all my life and I've spent a lot of time in the winter and some time in the summer reffing basketball the past 3 years. I am also going to be a camp counselor this year for the second straight summer

By the way, I live in New Jersey and am looking to go no further west than Indiana, preferably to stay on the east coast. I'm interested in business and are looking to schools with strong business schools where I can do either a co-op or an internship. My major will most likely be Accounting or Finance.

I would really appreciate any opinions or help any of you guys out there have.

My son applied to a few of these schools. Is English your native language? If it is and there is no explantation for the low verbal score, I think that you are best served by schools that are SAT optional. You can retake the SAT or take the ACT to try for a better score too.

One school that we liked that is sat optional, and has a business school, is Susquehanna. It is in a remote PA location, but everything else about it was great. They have a wonderful study abroad program for their business majors during junior year. If you would like more info, you can send a pm.

Also, what your gpa be on a regular 4.0 scale? Also have you taken some APs or honors classes, at least 3 years of foreign language, 2/3 lab sciences, 4 years of English, and will you finish hs with precalc or calculus?

im taking an honors and ap class next year, i have 3 years of lab science, and im taking pre-calc next year. What schools would be a match for me with these SAT scores.

Well, you never know, but all of these are reaches b/c that sat verbal is below the 25%. This is why you should retake, investigate the ACT, and look into sat optional schools in addition to those on your list. Also, have you met foreign language requirements?

Rutgers-NB has a midrange verbal of about 530-630. That is the problem. It does not mean that you won't get in, but it does make Rutgers a reach, IMO.

Try the ACT. If your score is not better do not send it, but lots of people do better on one test, or the other test.

Look into SAT optional schools too.

Try retaking the SAT.

I know 2 of my son's friends had low scores on one section. They both went, or are going to schools that accepted them (private schools). One transferred to Rutgers after 2 years, and the other is just starting college this August.

Why do you feel that you must go to either Bentley or these larger schools? There are plenty of other schools out there.

I think you should try to get that verbal SAT score up. Buy a prep book and go through a few practice tests. Identify your weak areas and work on them - then try again. Low to mid 500s would give you a better chance at the schools you mentioned. Otherwise, SAT optional schools should be part of your list.

You're fine at Indiana, should be in. They look at GPA first, and it's the most important factor in admission. You are well above average in that department.

The 9,448 students admitted to the University of Maryland have an average (weighted) GPA of 3.96 and the middle 50% of SAT scores range from 1240 to 1380, and between 28-31 on the ACT. As a result 25% of the admitted students scored below a 1240 on the SAT and 25% scored above a 1380.

University Honors:

The 2,536 students admitted to the University Honors program have an average (weighted) GPA of 4.26 and the middle 50% scored between 1350-1480 on the SAT and between 30-33 on the ACT.

College Park Scholars:

The 2,629 students admitted to the College Park Scholars Program have an average (weighted) GPA of 4.02 and the middle 50% scored between 1270-1380 on the SAT and between 28-31 on the ACT.
We have admitted students from all 50 states and over 100 countries.

With those scores, u could probly get into Rutgers Camden or Newark, but New Brunswick is quite a bit more competitive. I'd really recommend studying with the Collegeboard Blue Book and retaking the SATs in October. The ACT is also an option.
I had an 1120 last October (530 CR and 590 M). I retook the SAT in December and ended up with a 1210 (550CR and 660M). It's still not great, so I'm gonna study over the summer, take the SAT again in October, and hope for a 1300. Good luck!
