My chances ... I know i shouldn't but i can help myself ...........

wow...dat means us three will have pretty similar applications...(except im quite inferior in comparison)....so much for diversity among aussie/nz ppl!
at least im a girl=D ...heh..

i might not even end up doing ED/EA, since ill prolly screw up my SAT IIs... erickangnz wot r u planning to do for ur essay?

I was looking at the Princeton facts section on the princeton website. of the 2,599 international applicants, only 181 were admitted which leaves an admit rate of 7% which is quite depressing.
http://www.princeton.edu/pr/facts/profile/05/07table.shtml

btw- one of the girls told me that princeton actually has a rugby team. which is quite a feat considering i've never heard of it before and the fact it isn't even listed on the Princeton athletics site.

do you know how many aussies there are in princeton in each year level? harvard has about 4...which is quite depressing, considering that it admits a much higher amount of int'ls too...

I know one of them there. I emailed him asking him how many AUS/NZ there are at Princeton although I'm not optimistic at the numbers.

kjoodles. Apply. Now I am no better than the magic 8 ball so pay me no need but I make my call in part on how kids sound on the forum. I pegged Zante's acceptance early. I think you have a good chance if you write your essays the same way you write your posts. IMHO.

Well, with Eve from New Zealand, who is obviously a girl, into maths, does a fair bit of sports, plays the piano, wants to do ED to Princeton, the number is increased to 4.
For the essays...
What major historical event was there in the 1990's?!
Mandela?
Berlin wall came down in 89.
Bush getting elected?
I mean, really, nothing really that major happened.
So I am not doing that one.
I'll probably write about my best friend for the influential person topic.
I'll probably do the curiosity/mystery one as my long one.
And do either the motto or the quote.
You?

i dont like princeton's 250 word essays...they are way too short...do you think i can just combine them and make it into one big essay? Anything i write in 250 words is going to be so superficial....It's really putting me off..

Like for the influential person, im going to write about my dad, but he is sorta gonna be the focus of my common app essay already!!

do you know if Yale or Harvard lets you pick your own essays for the supplementary apps? like, are the essays at least more than 250 words?

hmm major historical event ...dont really know either...the fall of USSR? i spose with 'historic' it doesnt have to be world famous does it?

what are you thinking of doing for your common app essay? the one where u can pick your own topic?

Im going to focus on politics for my essays...im not sure out of HYP, which is the most politically orientated..

btw, erickangnz and kjoodles, are you two going to apply to any universities in Melbourne? if so, what major?

I am doing the Princeton application, not common.
I am probably not going to apply to a university in Melbourne.
Maybe though.
What are the top universities in Australia for maths and physics?

And 250 words is definitely way too short.
But you gotta do what they tell you to do though.
I would like to be able to combine like two essays too, but I don't think you can do that.
Cuz when I had to write like this application letter for this other event, in which they asked 3 questions, I combined two of them together, and the guy in charge later told me that he didn't like it (although I did get selected).
So I wouldn't do it again.

you should all read the books "a is for admission", and the college application one as well by Michelle Hernandez. Its quite handy if you don't know the fine details for the application.

I got in last year for Sci and economics at Melb uni which i defferred (i think i deffered it) so thats going to be my safety incase anything goes amiss. btw- my ter was 99.90

**** MAN dats really high WELL DONE!!! did you get a national scholarship??... are you still at school or taking a gap year?

on my preferences i put law/commerce at melbourne first, so hey we might end up at the same uni together!

top unis in for maths and physics...hmm well ANU is like the best uni for sciences... at melbourne uni, to get into a science course, you only need a ENTER of 80, which is a fail in IB lol..so I dont know about the level of talent.. although law/science is 99.40 and eco/science is like 98

erickangz: i think you should apply for cambridge, becuz they dont care about ur ECs and all ur medals look good =)

kjoodles, where can i get a copy of that book?

I brought mine off amazon when I was looking for SAT prep books. I brought the essay writing one by harry bauid, College App and Aisforadmission by michelle and the ivy league one by chuck hughes. They're quite a fun read especially with their emphasis on how to make yourself stand out. So yeah, I got mine from amazon. I don't think they're for sale at any bookshops here because not many people at all seem to take the SAT and stuff.
