My chances in Washington in St. Louis

I’m only a sophomore in high school so I know a lot can change between now and senior year, but I really hope to go to Washu and I plan to apply ED. I’m currently number 1 in my class with a GPA of 5.139/5.3 (about 4.2/4.0). I plan to take six or seven AP classes total, and have three on my schedule for next year (chem, bio, and US history). All of my other classes are honors, and I will take French for all four years of high school. I did very well on the PSAT and hopefully that will correlate with my SAT scores. For ECs, I have officer positions in three clubs, two of which I started myself. I play the flute in three different ensembles and am section leader in two. I’ve been taking piano lessons for twelve years and flute lessons for six. I play field hockey, but I am considering dropping it next year. I do a lot of volunteering, including a mentorship program, the Community Giving Tree, and playing the piano and flute in senior centers. I also have a job at a function hall that I will start this summer and hopefully keep if I can manage my time. I’ve also done multiple extracurricular academic programs, including MIT ESP and Summer@Brown. I am going to start shadowing a physician at an urgent care center this summer as well. Lastly, I’ve gotten many academic excellence awards at my school and hope to get more.
Washington in St. Louis is my dream school and I would like to know if I should focus on any area for improvement between now and my senior year!

So far your statistics are fine. Wash U is a nice school, but there are many factors you need to take into account. First, you shouldn’t just focus on one university, there are so many schools out there. Second Wash U is a private pricy university, so unless you get a scholarship it is somewhere around 60,000 dollars to attend each year. (too much!! lol). Secondly I would start taking exams summer of sophomore year (maybe too late). When I finished sophomore year I took the ACT and got a 35, which set me up for a 36 later on. I would drop the expensive college prep programs during the summer, and do research, volunteering or internships over the summer. Develop a passion in a few of your ECs instead of spreading them out so much. Good luck!

I had never heard of anyone taking the ACT before junior year, but it certainly sounds like a good idea! $60,000 is definitely very expensive (and I plan on attending med school after :-SS ) so I will have to take that into account as well.

You certainly seem capable of getting in. You’d never know though, since it’s WashU where like other top schools it’s a crapshoot. They get thousands just like you. Find something you are very passionate about and chase after that.
