My Chances into getting one of the top universities

Hi Everyone,

I am going to be a HS Senior this fall and I was wondering about my chances in getting into these Universities.

UC Berkeley
UCLA
UC Davis
UC San Diego
UC Irvine
Duke University (Early-Decision)
Georgia Institute of Technology
Purdue University
University of Michigan
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

I have 4.15 GPA Weighted and a 3.7 GPA unweighted. I participate in many extra-curricular activities(NHS,CSF,Global Communications Club,Volunteer). I am also a Varsity Water-polo player and Swimmer. I will most likely have good teacher recommendations. I plan to major in Electrical Engineering.

Thanks!

My SAT Score is 2256 and my unweighted GPA is 3.8 not 3.7

another water polo player :)

your ec’s are pretty lackluster. I’d say you’re in at all these places but Duke, Berkeley, UCLA, and michigan which I would call low reaches or high matches.

Well, I’m not in my Senior year yet, So are there any ways I can improve my chances for Duke, Berkeley, UCLA, and Michigan?

Your SAT is a 2256? Is that a typo, or are you saying you got a 2256?

I am So Sorry that is a typo I got a 2250.

UC gpa? Class rank? Context of school? Awards? Kind of community service? Are you from California? Subject test scores? AP scores?

Look at the comment above yours…

Edited. If you’re from California, you’ll get into davis and irvine for sure. Most likely you would get into San Diego. Your sat is strong, but you’re applying to an heavily impacted major EECS. Your gpa is your Achilles heel for duke, but colleges will look at the context of your school

My UC GPA is a 4.15, I have no idea about my class rank but I think I’m in Top 10-15%, Ive gotten Student of the Semester before for my awards also got the Scholar-Athlete Award, I don’t do any community service but I volunteer at a tutoring center. I’m from California. What do you mean by Context?

These are all the APs I have taken with scores:

AP European History (4)
AP Computer Science (5)
AP US History (5)
AP Physics B (4)
AP Language and Composition (3)

I will also be taking AP Calculus AB or BC (I don’t know yet), AP Statistics, AP American Government, and AP Physics C.

Thanks!

Context is basically how rigorous your school is. It is whether or not your school has grade inflation or grade deflation. Context also means on how many students from your school on a year to year basis get in Cal etc. Those are good AP scores and they will only boost your chances for Cal.

Oh Ok, We had 5 or 6 kids go to Cal this year from my school and we constantly have people go there every year. Do you think my UC GPA is too low for Cal or UCLA?

It’s not too low. If you write good essays, I would not be surprised if you got accepted to both of them. UC Berkeley’s average high school gpa is 4.16 and ucla’s average gpa is 4.11 for accepted students. I believe unweighted for Cal is 3.88 EECS is arguably the hardest major to get into at Cal, thus having higher qualifications than the rest of Cal’s colleges. The applicant pool is stronger.

By EECS do you mean the major Electrical Engineering and Computer Science or are you just talking about Electrical Engineering? If I don’t get into Electrical I will most likely do Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
